Kasabian Insults, Apologizes To Mick And Keef

On Friday night Kasabian's Tom Meighan was interviewed on Channel 4 and went on a rant about the Rolling Stones, who his band's supporting on the road.

TOM MEIGHAN: "It's quite incredible. We're fucking supporting them! So if we get kicked off the stage we've got to buy a ticket, which is about 200 quid. It's probably Americans who are running it, not Jagger. And Richards isn't going to know what's fucking going on, is he?"
In a statement released today, the rocker backpeddles:

"We are sorry for the comments made concerning Rolling Stones ticket prices. We now realise Kasabian as a support band do not have to pay to see the Rolling Stones perform. We are incredibly honoured and excited to be supporting the Stones on some of their European dates - it's like a dream come true for all of us."

Look for Kasabian this summer at various festivals across the pond, and on Where Are They Now? in 2007.

I think I'd be pissed too if I had to pay for tix to see the band I'm opening for but maybe I wouldn't go off in the press about it. Funny thing about Kasabian, I was supposed to see them, Jet, and Oasis last fall. Of the three, Kasabian couldn't perform because of "technical difficulties".

they were pretty good at Cochella a couple of years ago....

but the Stones (as much as i love 'em) fell off the earth years ago to be replaced with clones who climb tress for cocnuts whilst high on dope...

never a good idea stones clones!

I volunteered at SXSW a few years ago and Kasabian got all pissy because their "Stylist" wasn't able to get a wrist band (crew only get one wristband to prevent people from bringing everyone they know in as "crew" for a free wristband)

He's right. If it wasn't for those damned Americans, the Stones would be playing clubs for twenty bucks and everyone would get to see them!

How the hell is any of that the fault of "the Americans"? What a douche bag. Kasabian should be honored as hell to open for the Stones, because they are a shit band and I really thought no one cared about them. They have the audacity to mouth off about the Stones, and then blame the Americans. I'm not Ms. Patriotic or anything, but that kind of pisses me off. He needs to get off his British high horse and realize that is he keeps making statements like that, he can kiss success goodbye.

Whatever, I actually like Kasabian a good deal. Listen to their album and tell me that it doesn't rock. Anyway, I agree that that comment was far too audacious. Who has the nerve to insult the Rolling Stones when they are opening for them, even if they are nowhere near as good as they once were? It sounds like they are taking their Oasis endorsement a bit too far. Not even the Gallagher brothers are ballsy enough to do something like that.

I hate that guy. He makes the stupidest most random comments about everyone. And their new song sucks!!! Down with the Kasabian "Empire"!

I kind of find his comments amusing.....but then, I love Kasabian. Tom is someone who says what he thinks and I respect that. They are a fantastic band and I enjoyed seeing them supporting my boys, Oasis, this past fall. Also enjoyed hanging out with them as well afterwards. They're great fun and I especially got on with Tom, he's very funny and I think he was being just that when he made these comments.

Don't you guys know that EVERYTHING is the fault of the Americans? I hope the Americans make sure to stay away from Kasabian shows. Unfortunately there are plenty of us out there with awful taste in music, so they'll probably have a long career.

This Tom fella's got it ALL wrong! It's not the Americans' fault -- it's the Jews! Ask Mel Gibson, ferchrissakes!!

Kasabian are a bunch of assholes. Their new song sucks, I'm pretty sure their new album is going to suck. The first one had some pretty good tunes, but they got all full of themselves, dissing on every other band and throwing out the guy that wrote all their songs. Now they sound like absolute crap and i hope they all fail miserably.

wow, if the guy who wrote all their songs was kicked out they are in trouble indeed. Thank you for the information Steve, I had no idea.

Yep, they kicked out that Chris Karloff because they said there were creative differences. Apparently, he told them they suck now, and unfortunately for them, they didn't listen.

I saw the interview when Tom made the comments about the rolling stones. It was the presenter (Steve Jones) that made the comments and Tom had a laugh with him about it. Tom is the kind of person who says what he thinks and has a good sense of humour - i don't think his comments should be taken too seriously. I think Kasabian are a great band and if u haven't seen them live you don't know what your missing!!!

I agree that kasabian as a band are good. this tom guy is a douche bag though. he pays out every band... i mean he payed out Julian Casablancas of the Strokes... when Kasabian get as good as them, he can do that. But he needs a reality check.
