Keith Richards: Don't Do Drugs

Modern drugs, that is. These newfangled substances are no good, according to the Stones axeman. As told to Q (via Gigwise):

"I think the quality's gone down. All they do is tryand take the high out of everything. ... I don’t like the way drugs now are working on your brain area instead of just through the blood stream. That’s why I don’t take any of them anymore.”
That's easy to say when you have a steady supply of Swiss replacement blood! (That's probably my second favorite classic rock urban legend, behind Rod Stewart having his stomach pumped for swallowing too much semen.)

Haha yeah I heard the same thing about the blood transplant from the guy that owns Sketchers (don't ask).

I love that Keith Richards' DIY psychopharmacology is born from an understanding of the human body that is arbitrary and sounds like something out of an Alchemist's textbook from the middle ages. "The problem with the drugs these days is that they get your humours all out of wack. I also hate how flies are spontaneously born from rotting meat."

Rod Stewart? It was Marc Almond round here (which is at least more plausible)

Actually according to a very good source, a memphis musician that went with him to Germany when the transfusion was done, that whole blood replacement thing is true. Seems Keith had some sort of abcessed lesion on his leg that would not heal with antibiotics because his blood was so toxic from heroine abuse.

When the transfusion was done, Richards demanded they only use Aryan blood. I shit you not.

Modern drugs no good for him? Good thing he stocked up before, eh?

Keith Richards doesn't even need to do drugs anymore. At this point, he's probably pickled himself so effectively that he'll never die, either. After we're all gone, it'll just be Keith, the cockroaches, and Cher.

From the new Blender:

Rod Stewart responds to the rumor he had his stomach pumped from swallowing too much semen: “It was brought about by a publicist I employed -- that I had to fire. I was on tour at the time, but it didn’t worry me. There were loads of rumors flying around at the time: ferrets up people’s bum holes ... all kinds.”
