Kerry Does 'The Daily Show'

Stewart: I watch a lot of the cable news shows, so I understand that you were never in Vietnam.
Kerry: That's what I understand, too, but I'm trying to find out what happened.

Recap here.

I think what I enjoyed most about last nights show was that Kerry appeared to be enjoying himself. Most political folks on that show seem so preoccupied with saying the right thing and campaigning that they miss the spirit of the show. Kerry didnt do that. He rolled with the show, said serious things when appropriate and joked and laughed when that was appropriate. I was quite impressed.

I am beginning to like more about Kerry beyond the fact that he isnt Bush.

I agree with zipyflavor that Kerry needs to show his humor because he is considered to be so stiff but more than that he needs to show some balls. Speaking of balls, he would be better served by appearing on Hard Ball with Chris Matthews than on shows like the Daily Show. Above all he needs to appear "presidential" over appearing humorous or clownish.

I'd like to see how well Bush would "roll" on that show. My guess is that we'd all see the confused monkeyish face a lot.

That is, assuming that his handlers would even allow him on TDS.

I am suprised to say that I actually like Kerry- and not just for the obvious reasons.

Actually, you know who was great on the Daily Show? Bob Dole. Really.

Right now, I'm not looking for a personality to be my president... I've had enough "personality" from the Bushies for the past 4 years to suit me fine, thanks.

I want a smart, well-versed, diplomatic leader that can relate to the issues affecting the poor as well as the wealthy industrialists.

And if that leader is stiffer than a frat boy at a Maxim magazine hot tub party, that suits me fine.

Just get the job done, keep me and my family safe, and treat my opinions with some measures of respect.

That's why I'm busting my ass to make sure Kerry gets elected... go Kerry/Edwards!

Okay, so I heart both Kerry and Stewart and all, but does anyone else get a sort of sappy, "they're about to kiss" vibe from that photo? I understand why he did it, but I'm not thrilled with seeing Jon toss softballs like that.

Why was my comment deleted? I'm Jewish. It wasn't anti-Semitic.

Kerry bombed. If he can't handle Stewart I'm not sure he will be able to handle the debate questions, or the hard interviews that he will have to do in the weeks leading to the election. I used to be very confident we would be rid of Bush in Nov. but after this Swift Boat stuff (K's handled it terribly) and his performance last night, I really fear the worst.

Always enjoy this site though.

Reed, do you really think Kerry bombed? What was there to bomb?

And astrlgrl, I would agree that we dont need a president with personality, I think what I liked about Kerry was his humanity. I think that is what has been missing most from our current president. I love that Kerry will, from time to time, change his mind on things in light of new circumstances. What could be more noble than being open to the idea that perhaps you were wrong?
