Kings Of Convenience

Check this öut. (Link via Bedroom Dancing).

The 5/28/04 concert gives a nice overview of the Kings catalog. The site's also got some cool KoC covers...

Kings Of Convenience - "Free Fallin" (Tom Petty)
Kings Of Convenience - "Luckiest Guy On The Lower East Side" (Mag Fields)
Kings Of Convenience - "Glory Box" (Portishead)

Stream the duo's latest album here. If you're looking for something more upbeat, pick up Erlend's awesome DJ Mix.

Interestingly...the guitar line is the original melody from the sample source, Daydream by Wallace Collection - more prominently sampled by the Beta Band on Squares.

I'll stop now.

It's sad that they still haven't announced a US tour for this album. My sister's in Italy and she totally gets to go see them. I hate her. Their SF show a few years back was one of the best concerts I've been to.

Thanks, Scott. KoC deserves all the props they get, Erlend Øye is simply one of music's greatest treasures.

You simply MUST seek out their cover of "Once Around The Block"! It's awesome... much better than the Magnetic Fields cover (although perhaps I just love the original too much). By the way, as far as something "more upbeat" goes, I'd sooner recommend the outstanding remixes album "Versus" than the DJ Kicks, not that that isn't also great.

Quit Your Day Job: Megafaun

Raleigh-via-Eau Clair BTW Megafaun debuted impressively earlier this year with Bury The Square. The trio nip-and-tuck experimental tendencies (tape splicing, white noise colliding with banjo, junkyard-laced spring reverb, screeching feedback at the tail end of a quiet back porch lament)...

Premature Evaluation: of Montreal - Skeletal Lamping

Skeletal Lamping is anything but skeletal. When we took a close listen to album closer "Id Engager" we mentioned it wasn't the strangest, most ambitious, or best tune on of Montreal's new one, but after absorbing the other 14 tracks,...

Horse Feathers - "Father"

Portland songwriter Justin Ringle's evocative vocal twang and sharp lyricism are at the center of Horse Feathers' bedroom Americana. The band's second album House With No Home, which follows 2006's Words Are Dead, finds Ringle's vision fleshed out by multi-instrumentalist/composer...
