Less BRIT More RAWK

Here's my fav track from the latest disc by Sloan, Canada's best kept secret. Action Pact dropped last August but was only released here in the States a few weeks ago. It's straightforward power pop a la Big Star ... not terribly original but great nonetheless. They should be much more popular than they are. First time I heard "Everything You've Done Wrong" (buy the CD) in college, I called up the radio station 'cause I had to know who it was. The DJ told me people had been calling non-stop to request it. I've been a fan ever since.

Sloan - "Nothing Lasts Forever Anymore"

sloan has lost their spark here in canada...twice removed (the release before the one with everything you've done wrong on it) was as good if not better than one chord to another. nice to see reference to them regardless.

The first track on Sloans new CD is one of the best I've heard this year hands-down...

They're also great live. They just played in May at the Bowery Ballroom, but they're coming back to open for Jet on July 11 at Roseland. So bummed I will not be able to go see them again.

Signed,
mega Sloan geek

I had lost my Sloan buzz too, until I saw them live a couple of times last year promoting their new album. One of these sets was followed by a 2 hour jam in someone's basement where the boys plowed through an 'all request' set of their old tunes (which they don't play much anymore) and cover songs (Fleetwood Mac, Black Sabbath, the Descendents!, etc.) The new album was unjustly ignored when it was released here last summer, glad to see that it's getting some exposure stateside.

I liked sloan back when I first heard "Underwhelmed" on CFNY. I only saw them live once, in Buffalo, what they termed their "Last Gig Ever"... since then I can take or leave most of their stuff, but I always want to like it.

RIP Marlon Brando... I wonder if his sudden passing was due to this week's report that he was $15 million in debt. Some web log was joking (??) that maybe it was suicide... hope not.

So sad to lose one of America's greatest actors...

Awesome, everyone's been telling me to check out Sloan and I never got around to it.
They seem really cool.

RIP Marlon Brando.

Hey...any chance of you doing a favor for those of us who already bought the Canadian import version of the album and posting the bonus track?

Sloan will always be one of my favourite Canadian bands. I have every one of their albums. Sadly I've lost interest in recent years(momentarily interrupted with the release of Action Pact when it came out in Canada). I'm waiting for their PERFECT POP record...if they hand over the reigns to Jay Ferguson for one record, they might come close.

i prefer andrew scott's songs myself, but i bet jay and patrick could put together one helluva pop record.

"Everything you've done wrong" hooked me, as well. I also have to give "props" to Navy Blues, it's one of my top ten favorite albums of all time.
