Maybe it would have been easier to just list the bands that won't be there:

The Oak Ridge Boys
Celine Dion
Usher
A few death metal bands from Bulgaria

I'm psyched. I haven't seen Nuno Bettencourt live since Extreme's "Extremely Rockin' Summer" tour came through town in 1991. They were really powerful live. Can't wait to see what type of magic Nuno and Perry can conjure up. Satellite Party will definitely be Band of 2008.

OMG, I can't wait! This is a better line up than last year. The only band that I would've liked to see there is the reunited pumpkins.

I was hoping for Muse, since they don't have any other midwest date. And Interpol too! Fuck you Coachella!

Now if anyone can lend me 165$...thx...

they've grown up!
they actually have some good tunes there... track 3 and the last track, for example... are surprisingly good.

silverchair grew up on "neon ballroom" and released their best work on 2002's "diorama". the dissociatives album is also worth picking up. they gave up ripping off nirvana quite a long time ago...

I love seeing all you americans go 'silverchair, wah?', where you probably have this image of them as the grunge kids they once were. they're a totally different band today, all pop and orchestral, with van dyke parks doing the orchestral parts

overall the lineup is good, but i think those three first names are a little bit misplaced. no one listens to pearl jam, dafth punk sucks and ben harper simply shouldn't be there.

As of December 2006, Pearl Jam has sold over 31 million records in the U.S. alone. So yeah, I'd say that a couple of people still care about them.

Here's a fun little project for everyone:

Go to the upper right of this site and check out the Gum Mix. Write down every band name on that list. Put all of those names into an envelope and mail it to yourself. Put that envelope away for 17 years. When that time has passed, open the envelope. See if any of the bands are a.) still making music, b.) still selling out tours.

I think the last poster wants more Pearl Jam on the site. I think the rest of us already know who Pearl Jam is, unlike the bands on the gum mix. Thanks for finding good, new music for us Stereogum. And to Pearl Jam, thanks for re-hashing your first 2 records over and over for the past 15 years or so. By the way, which drummer are they using now?

Posted by: Ben Wintle at 04/12/07 1:20 PM | Reply

Any post here that mentions Pearl Jam has the same insult and then the same retort. So here it is:

"And to Pearl Jam, thanks for re-hashing your first 2 records over and over for the past 15 years or so. By the way, which drummer are they using now?"

Matt Cameron, same drummer as for the last nine years. And for rehashing the same album for 15 years, that must be why they deliberately flew under the radar doing almost no videos or press for 15 years while releasing relatively experimental albums without mainstream appeal.

Dooooofus.

if any of you have ever seen pearl jam live you will understand why they are still the most popular touring band around. however they are a headliner, haven't you learned yet sparky that any headliner isn't good enough for these hipsters

It´s not that I´m too hip for my own good, I like Fountains of Wayne and Coldplay for christsakes. To me, Eddie Veder has always sung like a constipated goat. It sounds too goddamn affected and it annoys me to no end.

For everyone considering going to Lollapalooza, I don´t mean to dissuade you but...don´t go. I went last year and while it is fun, there are simply too many bands and the stages are too far away from each other. You´ll have to leave a bands set 15 minutes early, meaning that you will only get to hear said band for 45 minutes. Then by the time you get to the other side of the field to see the other band you want to see you´ll have to be that asshole/bitch that pushes people that have been waiting for way longer than you have in order to get a good spot. None of you want to be that person, that person sucks. So save your money and go to a different festival. It is simply too much.

Pearl Jam releases "relatively experimental albums without mainstream appeal"? when? you must still live in 1991!!! I bought all cds until they release Binaural, then i realised that since the bigining they were all the same, over and over again!!!

Colour Revolt got their gear (i mean, everything) snatched at SXSW. Total comedy if somebody/group could pull this off one more time.
