Looking Forward To 2007

Still one more day of clock-punching before we're done with the oh six, but we know y'all have already deep thoughts about (and logged countless hours listening to) next year's best albums. And though the "look ahead" is obligatory, the prospects are definitely hype-worthy. Some of the notables (album titles provided where possible):

The Shins - Wincing The Night Away
Is this the record to lose the indie kids? Is the album too "safe"? Regardless, this one will make 'em this year's Death Cab.
Bloc Party - A Weekend In The City
See above, replace "Death Cab" with "Coldplay."
Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
Slated for April release, unless Merge gets click-happy again.
Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?
Can someone say best OM ever? Expect this one on '07 year-end lists. Totally amazing.
Deerhoof - Friend Opportunity
Same as above.
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Some Loud Thunder
Fridmann's stamp is already evident on the tracks the Clap has "released." Expect it to be another love/hate affair.
Menomena - Friend And Foe
If you aren't paying attention to this Portland trio yet, get involved; this record is fucking stellar.
Courtney Love - How Dirty Girls Come Clean
The live clips we heard have us officially psyched. Even if she is a lunatic.
Ted Leo - Living With The Living
We've been digging the demos since before SXSW. T&G finally delivers the goods in March.
Marrdest Mouse - We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank
After the sweep of Johnny-infused gigs, there still wasn't clear consensus on the Modest upgrade. But seriously, how could Marr be anything but awesome?
!!! - Myth Takes
We've just started listening to this one. Safe to say "Heart Of Hearts" is gonna be a go-to track in hipster DJ sets from the LES to London.
Apostle Of Hustle - National Anthem Of Nowhere
Andrew Whiteman's second full-length with Apostle sounds great so far.
Air - Pocket Symphony
No surprise, we're loving it. More 10,000 Hz than Moon Safari, and Jarvis and Nigel join in the fun. They had us at "Air."
Scarlett Johansson - Scarlett Sings Tom Waits
Who knew? Scarlett can sorta sing. But we love us some Tom Waits -- and so we're afraid of the end result. Very afraid.
Apples In Stereo - New Magnetic Wonder
Yep Roc puts their muscle behind the Colbert-cameoing R. Schneider's latest.
Guns N' Roses - Chinese Democracy
Yes, we're still excited. No, we don't actually expect it to come out in March.
Michael Jackson - TBD
Not exactly a man of his word, either.
Radiohead - TBD
Counting the days. Track their progress here.
Smashing Pumpkins - TBD
Counting the Jimmy Chamberlin MySpace blog posts. Track their progress here.
The Twilight Sad - TBD
The EP grabbed us, the live show did one better, and the band says neither hold up to the Peter Katis mixed debut full length, due next March.
Cat Power - TBD
Another record of covers, according to Venus. Better to put energies there than in schilling for diamonds.
Polyphonic Spree - The Fragile Army
This one's political. And new costumes! Keep an eye on the blog.
Interpol - TBD
The band says album three sounds "great" so far.
LCD Soundsystem - Sound Of Silver
5,000 joggers can't be wrong.
Travis Morrison - TBD
0.1? Fingers crossed...

And...
Rufus Wainwright - Release The Stars
Lauryn Hill - Khulami Phase
Patty Griffin - Children Running Through
Wilco - TBD
Spoon - TBD
The Postal Service - TBD
Metallica - TBD
Gnarls Barkley - TBD
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - TBD
Duran Duran (Feat. JT)- TBD
Ryan Adams - The Complete Recordings (94 CD Set)

We know you list-happy listeners have already ranked your favorite records of 2007; we just ask that you help us separate the wheat from the chaff and tell us what YOU think will be the best of year next. (And what records we missed on the list.) To sweeten the pot: Guess '07's Gummy winning album and win everyone's envious admiration! Good luck, gold ears.

new LCD Soundsystem sounds pretty promising so far. also liking what i've heard from The Good, The Bad, and The Queen. and i completely agree that the new OM might just be their best work yet. but really, anything Air at least starts out at the top just because... well..., it's Air.

Heck, I've already pre-ordered OM's Hissing Fauna and can't wait to hear it. Plus, I'm psyched for the upcoming Porcupine Tree (with Robert Fripp guesting, no less!) and Blackfield II.

And then there's Somewhere Else from Marillion, which is just between you, me and the old-school proggers out there...

DwD

P.S. We will also have to wade through two gazillion Ryan Adams burp-alongs. He and Robert Pollard should just do rock-paper-scissors for who gets to release.
