MaySpace

From Queen axeman Brian May's online soapbox:

MY SPACE - A NUISANCE - AND A DANGER TO CHILDREN ? PAL STANLEY ALSO FIGHTING THE SITE

THANKS SO MUCH folks....for the fantastic supportive feedback you have given me on the subject of the theft of my identity that is going on in MYSPACE.

It seems to be a bigger problem than I realized ... it's obviously a fad that has broken out like a rash ... some people must think it's clever or funny.

I've since discovered that I'm not the only one whose identity has been pirated .... Paul Stanley of Kiss apparently is also fighting this invasion, and Roger and John - and my own lady, Anita, has already had to close one down.

It really is laughable that if you are trying to get something taken off, apparently the proprietors of this annoying website will not talk to you unless you join their pesky club ! And give them all kinds of personal details, and a picture ! ha ha! AS IF !!!! Outrageous ! And unforgiveable. I hope they disappear into Space quickly, if they don't mend their ways. This is really not a healthy situation. As some of you have pointed out, this massive availability of personal information, made completely public, is bound to make people, especially children, vulnerable. I really hope the whole site gets closed down.

Well, just once more ... there is NO Brian May site on MYSPACE, nor will there ever be. I am right here, on Brianmay.com - and staying put !!

Does this mean Freddie Mercury's not really my friend either?

Oh powerful and wise Brian May, forgive us our sins and save us from evil!

MySpace couldn't be any worse than "Hot Space."

Old people are terrified of technology. Not that MySpace is much in terms of technology but you get what I'm saying.

I wonder how he'd feel about ManHunt. Not as if his hairdo would get him much play on there anyway.

Bob Mould recently wrote on his blog of the same problem.

But I don't get it. What's the address of the imposter. This is some 18 year-old doofus, certainly not the guitarist for the most pompous band to come out of the most pompous decade of the rock era:

But the imposter has such a wide variety of movie interests...Akeelah and the Bee, Benchwarmers, MI:III, Scary Movie 4, Thank You For Smoking, Fight Club, Donnie Darko and Garfield.

That's groundbreaking shit man!

I agree with Brian May. MySpace.com is the world's worst web application and I hate it. I have tried to join my friends and use the stupid thing - but knowing the dangers that exist with child predators in this world, the application should be banned for use by those under the age of 18 years. The app doesn't work well at all. It is being used by those who have nothing better to do than prey upon others. Take the HO TRAIN for instance - it's an annoying bunch of crap! KILL IT! We can all find something better to do with our time...

MySpace is an awful thing, but not for any of the reasons Mr. May says.

We all pray for its closure ;-)

god forbid someone else named brian may should ever dare to show his face online. after reading the post i expected to find some dude impersonating brian may, not some kid's profile. thanks brian for clearing everything up.

when the bombs drop, the cities are silent tombs, and only the rats and pigeons are left to feast on our smoking remains, we can blame myspace.

So it's just some random kid that has the same name as him?... That's fucking lame. Is he going to go through the phone books next and hunt down every other "B. May" that's listed so he can show up at their door and scream "IDENTITY THIEF!" in their face?
