Monday Video Roundup (CYHSY Needs Your Help!)
Our friends in CYHSY need your help: they don't have a video of their appearance on Late Night with Conan O'Brien! Do any of you have a copy or know where we can find one? Quicktime or WMV are the preferred formats. Conan's performance video page has stuff up until Wednesday, and it might include CYHSY's performance later this week. Thing is, there might be some weird rights issues with that, if they just download the video. Eternal thanks from the band if you've got it.
Great weekend for comedy and music, come to think of it- as much as we love both CYHSY and Conan, the funniest thing from the weekend has to be Lazy Sunday, the "Chronic"les of Narnia rap from SNL. (via everywhere and about nine emails)
Gluttons for humpishment should check out the Dog-Eyed Welders marrying their a capella cover of "My Humps" to the video.
Oh, and We Are Scientists are on Letterman tonight.

yup, they'd be best served collecting all video of that performance and destroying it...it's a great album but apparently they owe a lot to whomever engineered the vocals to resemble the kinds of sounds humans typically make. that live performance was fucking godawful.

if you enjoy that chronicles of narnia short you owe it to yourself to check out AwesomeTown. it was a pilot that three guys shot and shopped around, but was never picked up. one guy is on snl now, and i think the other two write for it? watch the Dudes cut, the fox cut isnt as great.

yeah, CYHSY were pretty terrible on the show, but I've seen a lot of good bands completely suck on their first TV apperance. Hopefully They'll get another one and prove that they can play live. O and JayFlyer, Conan doesn't go on live, it's taped and played later that day, CYHSY didn't have to go and play at 1:30AM.

i agree that the vocals were pretty off when they played Conan, but i've seen them live and they're quite good. one performance that goes a bit sideways isn't going to change my opinion. i was somewhat surprised at the song choice, as that wouldn't have been in my top 5 of songs from the album to play on broadcast television...unless you wanted things to go a big sideways.

I've never seen CYHSY live, but here's my take: On the record he comes off as someone with a different, quirky voice who still TRIES to sing well. It ends up being sort of charming (like watching a monkey awkwardly ride a bicycle). But on Conan he sounded like a self-important indie guy who was deliberately making his voice crack and squonk because sounding bad is all the rage. Um... Sorry, I have no monkey analogy here.

I think CYHSY work better when you are actually there with the atmosphere and the sound of a live P.A. I also saw them rock ULU (along with Hockey Night) and I thought they were absolutely brilliant!!!

Me and my boyfriend busted out laughing at the CYHSY performance. How sad is that? He sounded like some cartoon character. After hearing the CD endless times, it only reinforced my thought of "what the hell do people see in this band?"
