More Trouble For QOTSA Tour

Posted at Queens Of The Stone Age's official site:

Mark Lanegan is taking a brief sebatical [sic] from the ongoing Queens tour due to exhaustion ... The band stresses that all other rumors regarding this subject should be written down, burned & the ashes pushed in to your eyes so that you are unable to find your watercooler/sewing circle.
It's shitty enough that Josh is coughing up blood. Can we blame Lanegan's exit on Matt Dillon too?
Entertainment Weekly: Five Rounds With QOTSA, April 2005
JOSH HOMME: When I was a little boy, I wanted that smoky setting. Some people want a trophy because they won a basketball game. I wanted to make music and have there be sexy lighting. The reason I smoke is Matt Dillon--you fucker! After I watched Over The Edge, I started dressing like him, too, because (a) it's very desert style, and (b) it's not too macho and it's not too sissy. It's like I can have sex with you or I can fight ... [Homme orders a pack of Camel Lights from the bartender.] ... Regular Camels make my lungs explode.
If you haven't yet, do yourself a favor and pick up Lullabies To Paralyze. ZZ Top dude even makes a cameo. Stereogum should've caught Queens live when they were in town. Any of you go?

Isn't one of the QOTSA guys in Eagles of Death Metal? They played somewhere close a few days ago.. Is that a plan B?

over the edge is one of my top five fav. movies. too bad it's not on DVD yet. Argh! It's available on VHS at Kim's for rental for those in the NYC area or on cable occasionally.

yeah, singing one song per album is definitely exhausting work, mark. and heroin too. that's pretty exhausting.

the show last night in Minneapolis was postponed as well, due to Josh being sick.

and Josh played drums on the first EODM record, but isn't in the band any more.

I finally learned how to pronounce Josh's last name. It's not what you'd think.

QOTSA rocked Chicago the other night. The only thing is that QOTSA is Josh Homme's back up band now. They're a note perfect touring band, but not a collective. So if that doesn't bother you, they put on a really really good rock show.

I saw them in DC on Easter night. It was pretty damned good. I think I actually like the current configuration better than the Oliveri configuration, which I saw in 03. It's a hell of a good show, and they've been playing a variety of material from all 4 records.

As a side note, the opening band when I saw them, Throw Rag, were absolutely horrible. Vaguely homoerotic (and not in a way that anyone could possibly conceive of as good) punk, and one of the vocalists plays washboard and looks like pre-Born Again Stephen Baldwin. Ugh.

Matt Dillon inspired me to get new teeth.

caught them in NYC and Hartford; the K-Rock meatheads who came out for the NYC show made it a slightly less than enjoyable experience. however, both shows were two straight hours of mind-bending rock 'n' roll with an inclination for the extended jam in the "holy shit I'm coming down off those peyote buttons" vibe.

(it's pronounced "hah-mee"...)

and lanegan is one hell of a fickle bitch, drug-addiction or not. if you'll remember, he was slated to play Mercury Lounge on the tour supporting his Bubblegum album, but he canceled the whole eastern leg of his tour because he was in a car accident. an accident in which HE WASN'T EVEN INJURED. love that man's voice but, jesus, what a wuss.
