Animal Collective Get First Official Grateful Dead Sample

Recent live staple "What Would I Want Sky" is approved to use bits of "Unbroken Chain" if Animal Collective wanna put it on record, according to a Tweet by the band's management (via GvsB). Songwriter Phil Lesh apparently loved the track, and Avey Tare (who wrote "WWIWS") has hinted it may show up on a Brothersport EP this winter. Wonder if Phil knows Animal Collective only exists because Geologist and Avey admired each other's Dead shirts in 9th grade? Or so they say. Here's a decent BBC recording of the Merriweather outtake, and the source material (sort of).

Until AC achieves massive, unprecedented mainstream success, they are terribly underrated.

I know Phil was one of those guys that really got excited when Revolver came out...Merriweather is the most Revolver since Revolver..."Jennifer Eccles" has a steel drum solo...
