Animal Collective Debut New Song In London

thubmnail icon: Animal Collective Debut New Song In London

While people are busy debating the merits of Merriweather Post Pavilion (or streaming it for the first time), the band's debuting new material. That's why they're Animal Collective and you aren't, lazy bones. The guys showcased the new track, ostensibly called "Blue Sky" at KOKO London, where they reportedly played most of Merriweather (seven cuts) in addition to the oldie "Slippi" and a "Winters Love" so thoroughly reworked it was basically unrecognizable. "Blue Sky" is likely unrecognizable because it's new. The song is a slow transitional gurgle that builds with loopy, waterlogged vocals and, after a while, understated sparkling percussive accents.

A.C. swing back into the States next week. We plan to make a field trip to the Bowery show, so look for the guy (Scott) dressed in a panda bear suit.

01/20 - New York, NY @ Grand Ballroom
01/21 - New York, NY @ Bowery Ballroom
01/22 - Chicago, IL @ Metro
01/23 - Los Angeles, CA @ Henry Fonda Theatre
01/24 - Los Angeles, CA @ Troubadour

You'll find additional dates at their MySpace.

I guessed I shouldn't had laughed at the headline I read about a couple of days ago that they were already working on their next album already.

I also like this more than any track from their new album, aside from my girls. And I actually think I might like this more than that song, too. This track is amazing.

i guess people just feel inclined to hate things that other people generally like. they like to be in the minority, so they can set themselves apart, so they can feel different...i mean its only human nature, but it makes me laugh..........i am of course refferring to people calling this song better than any song on the new animal collective record. Bottom line- they hate the record because people love it

Is it just me or does "Blue Sky" have a bit of Durutti Column going on inside it? Great song!

Slow gurgle. Loopy vocals. Sparkling accents. In other words, every Animal Collective song ever.

Strawberry Jam, Feels, and Sung Tongs are all better than Merriweather. Needs mora Avey Tare, less Panda Bear
