Band To Watch: Lily Allen
Yes, Stereogum too has been obsessed with Lily Allen. Especially because we know almost nothing about the blogosphere's newest download darling from across the pond. When ThighsWideShut passed us an MP3 of "Knock 'Em Out," we hit play and wondered for a few secs if she was the new Nellie McKay or the new M.I.A. And then her cheeky/ballsy rhymes took over: turns out Lily's a female Mike Skinner, and absolutely infectious. Also nab her debut single "LDN" which has been getting love on Radio 1 and MySpace, where she's amassed quite a following. We totally just added her as a friend of Stereogum. Hope she likes 'Gum!

I've been waiting to get my hands on her album for some time. But comparing her to Mike Skinner does her no justice. She is way more catchy and pop ready. I think she's more like a perfect combination of both Nellie McKay and M.I.A.

Someone earlier misidentified this as a Meters song. It's actually "Big Chief" by Professor Longhair, a staple tune of Mardi Gras. You can immediately i.d. it by his signature rythmic piano playing.

i have been doing some digging and have learned that most of the album (including LDN, SMILE, Nan..., Knock em out etc) is co written and produced by Future Cut (aka Darren Lewis & Tude Babayola) anyone else know anything about these guys...?
