Band To Watch: White Flight

We started receiving emails from readers about White Flight (aka Justin Roelofs), directing us to his MySpace and begging us to show some love. A colorful email from a fan-girl read:

The band is White Flight, which is Justin from that band the Anniversary that we all loved. He is this insane beautiful hippie boy who made an album that is scary at first and then entirely loving and danceable filled with classic pop hooks hiding in the shadows of his silly voice. Most of my friends are quite terrified at first and then after my forcefeeding can't let go.
And so we hit his profile and listened, but neither of those streaming tracks caught us quite like this one, which you're bound to see posted around in the coming weeks:

White Flight - "Solarsphere" (MP3)

There's no easy label for White Flight's sound on this record; he's bringing the kitchen sink, with moments of mania, of psych-folk, and of turntable dancebeats . His acoustic slinks its way through the tunes, but it'll fade for a chorus of Justins screaming, horns, or audio samples from a summer spent in South America. A great dose of schiz-pop to kick off your weekend. Here's a Stereogum exclusive:

White Flight - "Now" (MP3)

White Flight is out now in digital with a retail release of 12/5 on Range Life Records.

Enjoy.

Hey I like White Flight. I picked up the record at Other Music a while ago...it's an interesting pastiche of hip hop, found sounds and lo fi stuff. We posted some Mp3s a while ago on our spanish language music blog, check it out....

One of my favorite releases of the year, who cares about all this industry bullshit talk, just listen to the music.

i don't know what these guys are talking about...this album f-ing rocks! modest mouse???? more like modest badass! it's easy to draw comparisons to other bands, but that is the case for any muician/band out there.
my only piece of advice for this album (aside from buying it):
make sure you have an extra pair of undies when you listen to this album, because it is so good you'll seriously shit your pants.
