Black Kids Cover Sophie B. Hawkins

Ever wonder what Robert Smith would sound like covering "Damn, I Wish I Was You Lover"? No? Good, because the Black Kids version is more redolent of vintage Hot Hot Heat during its yowling chorus. We've been relatively good to Black Kids so far, but "damn" is the only word worth singing along to here (via Vulture). Let's hope they'll follow the homage to it's logical conclusion and make a video that features Sophie's soft-lit, slow-mo diaper-chic erotic dancing, only with the addition of powdered wigs. OK, let's not hope that.

The XYZ Affair also does a phenomenal cover of "Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover." You should check that out if you get a chance. Sweet.

Good lord his voice is awful! Maybe you shouldn't be so nice and Black Kids should not have covered this song.

Or at least sing in the same key the band is playing?

You've "been good" to Black Kids? Please, remind us all again what amazing taste makers you all are! And while you're at it, don't forget to mention how you TOTALLY knew about Radiohead before anybody else!

Wow! That is so completely awful. With so much amazing music out there why does this get a listen at all? What a laughable voice. Heaps of ridicule on this talentless fool. Could I be harsher? Oh yes I could. I'm restraining myself.
OK this cover is finally going to make me loose it. Forget restraint, let's call this what it is. Pathetic, garbage, talentless, forgettable, artless tripe.
There...I fell a bit better

I don't think Stereogum is trying to act like they discovered the Black Kids...

Quit Your Day Job: Ungdomskulen
