Bob Uecker, Joan Jett Together At Last

Did you see the premiere of ESPN2's 7th Inning Stretch? Me neither. But it sounds ... only slightly more interesting than watching baseball.

The reality show stars 50-year-old Smithereens singer Pat DiNizio, who recently overcame a life-threatening nervous disorder with the help of baseball (exercise helped him lose 80 pounds and wean him off the doctor-prescribed steroid that caused the weight gain). Some Q&A from patdinizio.com:

What will we see in the show?
You're going to see me getting advice and instruction from very famous future Hall of Fame baseball players. Don Mattingly gives me batting instruction in Yankee Stadium. David Wells is one of 17 pitchers in the history of the game to ever pitch a perfect game—he throws to me off the mound at Fenway Park. Cal Ripken Jr. gives me advice; Tony Gwynn, who won the National League batting title eight times, gives me advice.

Bob Euchre [sic] is in it...

Some of your musical friends are in it, too.
It's a very diverse group of people—Bruce Springsteen is in it, Joan Jett is in it; Todd Rundgren, George Thorogood, B.B. King and the Go-Go's.

Anyway, there's a soundtrack and it's got the one Smithereens song I like my favorite Smithereens song. [I don't know why I wrote 'the one' ... I'm listening to "Behind The Wall Of Sleep" now. Rock. -Ed.]

Tony Gwynn and David Wells know nothing about weight loss.

In other Joan Jett news, her new single "ACDC" kicks ASS.

"Blood and Roses" is a great song. "Strangers When We Meet," too. "Time and Time Again" is good. I always liked "Cigarette."

Smithereens kind of rocked.
