Catching Up With The Libertines

Page Six has a sad preview of Rolling Stone's feature on Pete Doherty, who kicked off a drug den Q&A with journalist Mark Binelli by snorting some heroin.

MARK BINELLI: Over the next three hours, Doherty will also smoke crack, shoot heroin and take an ecstasy pill. He does all of this casually, and openly, except for the shooting up, which he performs near the kitchenette, with his back to us. He offers me heroin and ecstasy but not crack. I decline. The more drugs Doherty does, the more he seems to relax. He never becomes incoherent, though occasionally he seems confused.
Meanwhile, Carl Barat's new band Dirty Pretty Things is garnering buzz here and across the pond (obvs) after blowing away the curious at two (four?) SXSW gigs (despite one being cut short by Austin cops).

Dirty Pretty Things - "You Fucking Love It" (MP3)

Why doesn't somebody help this guy instead of sensationalizing it for a story?!!?! Gah! So rock 'n' roll.

they played three sets at SXSW: one at eternal, NME/UNCUT party at Mean eyed cat then later at Levi's or whatever that party was.

Poor thing, I feel bad for him. Being so blatant about his drug use makes me hope he hasn't resigned himself to becoming a R&R cliche. I hope he can get some help and get better.

pete doherty is fucked beyond repair. if he ever cleans up - and i hope he does - it'll be nothing short of a miracle. too bad, as he has moments of songwriting greatness.

that said, dpt is pretty good. i didn't know what barat was up to, so thanks for the heads-up. is that him singing? it doesn't sound like his vocals with the libertines, but i can't quite tell from that one song.

Sounds like how my life used to be - except with GHB and K instead of crack and heroin.

quality song. i saw them at the abc in glasgow and was very impressed. peter just needs help, but it seems like carl's remained dignified throughout all the shenanigans, so fair play to him. it's didz, the bassist, singing on the verse(first verse at least), and carl on the chorus.

Thanks for the linkage. I put another couple of tracks up yesterday, and took one of the other ones off, so there's now 4 tracks here for anyone who's interested:
