Chicago

Don't worry, this post has nothing to do with Sufjan Stevens.

Chicago's on my mind today, as I'm rocking out to Appreciation Night...

Bound Stems - "Andover" (MP3)
Bound Stems - "Western Biographic" (MP3)

...and waiting for someone to tell me about last night's Golden Smog (w/ Jeff Tweedy!) show at the Vic Theatre. Were you there? Tell us! (Also, you can watch the Sunken Treasure trailer here.)

And of course there's Stereogum-fave Tortoise, on the road in support of A Lazarus Taxon, the new boxed set.

Tortoise - "Gamera" (MP3)

And we never do Chicago-specific ticket giveaways, so let's fix that! The band plays two sets at the Empty Bottle on 9/29, and we have a pair of tix for the late show. Want 'em? Just holler in the comments, and we'll pick someone randomly at 6 PM EST today.

I actually had Appreciation Night on when I clicked over to Stereogum just now. Seeing them this Friday open for Asobi Seksu.

I wasn't at the Vic last night, but I WAS at Subterranean for Snowden/Annuals. Good stuff, too bad turnout was a little weak. C'mon Chicago, was the first sign of Fall too much?

It's about f'ing time you start mentioning Bound Stems. You've mentioned so many other crappy "buzz" type bands that are completely flavor of the week. This band has longevity (and talent, for god's sake!!) and creativity that so many other bands mentioned on this website.

If you like broken social scene, arcade fire, fiery furnaces, the walkmen, check out this band.

Still nursin ACL Fest wounds, so missed the show (despite living 2 blocks from the Vic). . but I'll be well to grab those tickets from you, pretty please?

I haven't seen all the blogs recently, any mentioning of the final choice for the new Janis Joplin film. . .Anyone want to take bets on the better Janis, Zoey or Rene?? I'm in Zoey's camp.

I've been digging on Bound Stems all morning, especially after their session on Daytrotter (went up yesterday.)

I'd link to Daytrotter, but I seem to be getting Click-Blocked by comments here.

better show in chicago last night:
last-minute isis show at beat kitchen (tool show in milwaukee "postponed"...)
for $12, i got my face rocked off.

jeff tweedy was at the touch & go 25th anniversary show in the audience with his wife, and was super-adorable.
