Download of Montreal's "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

thubmnail icon: Download of Montreal's "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

When recapping of Montreal's over-the-top Skeletal Lamping-themed show at Roseland this past Friday, we mentioned and posted a video of their "Smells Like Teen Spirit" cover with MGMT's Andrew VanWyngarden. The clip was a tad grainy, though, and it didn't capture the entire song, so please allow this MP3 to help you more fully reach Nirvana.

Teen spirit is kinda about getting in touch with your Id, and this is clearly of Montreal week, so might as well bone up on that "Id Engager" video, too.

why is this the only song anyone ever covers? haven't we all heard it enough already? Jesus Christ, these guys "play music" for a living and this is the best they got? I suppose if they played something more obscure their 14 year old fans might get nervous.

I wouldn't mind people covering this song if the covers were anywhere near as good as the original....but they never are. This song should not be attempted by anyone who is a. afraid to use plenty of distortion in the chorus and b. cannot sing in a raspy voice.

um, the reaction of the 3k peeps in that room was absolutely nutso. They fucking LOVED it.

I am a huge Nirvana fan too, and in the context of that show that night in that room as loud as it was, it was fantastic.

I'm pretty sure Buns comment was appropriately laced with irony, but if not, then its ridiculous. of Montreal's normal covers range everywhere from the fire furnaces to bowie to broadcast. Of course, i may be biased as I'm in love with Kevin Barnes.
