Dublab Goes Non-Profit (Download Exclusive Dntel & Flying Lotus To Mark the Occasion)

Eight years! 1999 doesn't entirely seem like eight years ago, but for any online independents, those are long years, and Dublab's decided to celebrate their longevity by going non-profit, which is sort of like celebrating your silver anniversary with skydiving, except if you were still young and cool. Click here to kick 'em some money for what they're calling the "Future Roots to Infinity Proton Drive", which goes towards health insurance, launching a free label, and their bandwidth, among other things. You can get a bunch of gifts, too, if you fork over $20 or more -- from mp3 packs, shirts, and stickers all the way up to custom mixes made by the DJ of your choice. It's hard not to connect this to the operating models boomlet musicians big and small are fueling, and it's worth giving at least once to projects like this, if for no other reason than to help push the shitty parts of music business further out of the spotlight. The "proton drive" runs through Monday, November 19th, and they're broadcasting live the whole time (click here for a stream), with surprise special guests (cf. Money Mark in a bathroom).

Anyway, both of these tracks are off the already sold-out, limited edition Echo Expansion 12", so you won't find 'em anywhere else for at least 5 minutes.

Dntel - "Sundial" (MP3)
Flying Lotus - "Backpack Caviar" (MP3)

no idea what this is, but it has to do with the echo expansion tour

meanwhile, i've been listening to the stream all morning, and they've played spacemen 3, NMH (or a good cover?), and tons of other stuff.
