Get Low

Alan Sparhawk, Mimi Rogers, and Matt Livingston played a career-spanning set at D.C.'s 9:30 club Tuesday night, captured for your enjoyment at NPR. Stream it there, download it here:

Low @ 9:30 Club, Washington, D.C. (MP3)

The Minnesotan masters open with The Great Destroyer's "Cue The Strings" before slipping into cuts from this year's Stereobeloved Drums And Guns, including "Breaker," "Sandinista," and "In Silence." Regret not seeing 'em in NYC this past week, but they'll be back through in June opening for Wilco(!), which is a bill made in Midwestern heaven.

North Americans and Europeans will have plenty of opportunity to get Low over the next few months. Check the dates after the jump.

This post saved my life. I completely forgot that the Detroit show was tonight. Also Loney, Dear opening. Two birds with one stone. I'm hoping the show involves some form of speed-eating.

i saw them last monday in Philly, and it was incredible. you'd never know it from listening to their music, but they're really funny in person. alan was cracking jokes all throuought the night, and it was great. loney, dear are way better live than they sound on record, where it sounds like their producer shot them with bear tranquilizers before they recorded each song. if you can, definitely go check them out.

and yes, the new record is wonderful.

For songs that go so slowly, the show went by too fast. And I'm in love with super quiet music from here on out. How many times have you been to a show and the goddamn base is the only thing you hear? Not with Low. I could hear Mimi scratching the crash symbol with her thumbnail. And for my money, a solo Mimi record could go toe to toe with Feist.

Band To Watch: Blank Dogs

Blank Dogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's usually covering his face with masks...

Premature Evaluation: Oasis - Dig Out Your Soul

Pushing Noel off a stage in Toronto might bruise the erstwhile Oasis mouthpiece's ribs (maybe even his spirits) and cause the band to cancel a show or two, but nothing can stop the slow procession toward a new Oasis album....
