Good-Bye Small Hands

Seven Sleater-Kinney shows before Corin, Carrie, and Janet go on "indefinite hiatus."

7/29 Louisville, KY - Mellwood Arts Center
7/31 Philadelphia, PA - Starlight Ballroom
8/1 Washington, DC - 9:30 Club (to be broadcast on NPR)
8/2 New York, NY - Webster Hall
8/4 Chicago, IL - Lollapalooza
8/11 Portland, OR - Crystal Ballroom
8/12 Portland, OR - Crystal Ballroom
I'm gonna see 'em in Chicago and New York. (The NYC show will be shot for a DVD release.) Hot rock!

For Listening:
A Blog Soup says goodbye with an incredible collection of MP3s: rarities, odd covers, live cuts, and more.

For Arguing:
RS lists Ten Sleater-Kinney Songs That Make Them the Best American Punk Band Ever. Really.

  • “The Day I Went Away,” Sleater-Kinney (1995)
  • “More Than A Feeling,” B-side (1995)
  • “I’m Not Waiting,” Call The Doctor (1996)
  • “Call The Doctor,” Call the Doctor (1996)
  • “One More Hour,” Dig Me Out (1997)
  • “Start Together,” The Hot Rock (1999)
  • “Get Up,” The Hot Rock (1999)
  • “You’re No Rock & Roll Fun,” All Hands On The Bad One (2000)
  • “Jumpers,” The Woods (2005)
  • “Modern Girl,” The Woods (2005)
  • "No disrespect to the Ramones," is the mag's contradictory disclaimer. I'm guessing about zero of you punks will agree with the thesis, so feel free to enlighten us with the correct answer.

Who? Rolling Huh? Totally irrelevant magazine said what?

This is so ridiculous it doesn't even deserve a response.

Wait! Why am I responding then?

SK = good band + thoughtful lyrics + annoying voice. That's all.

I must say that is sad to hear. I have listen to Sleater Kinney for 11 years now, and they have always been a favorite. Then again I am loving the Christina single, so that doesnt say much.

rolling stone is so blatant in saying dumb ass things to make people argue. why even make a statement like that? Instead of talking up sleater kinney everyone will say they suck compared to the ramones. It’s very devious.

that being said the Webster hall show should be great and I'm greatly saddened about their split. I hope they play all night...

The best song by Sleater is "Good Things" from Call the Docter and "Dance Song 97" from Dig Me Out.

I found out about them from Spin Magazine in 95, I think around the same time that I found out about Imperial Teen. Yoo-Hoo. (This is when Spin rocked my socks)

The Portland, OR dates listed are wrong, yes? Shouldn't it be 8/11, 8/12? Nearly had a heart attack!

Honestly, you really need to stop telling us when somebody ranks something. It always inspires some of the most annoying debate ever.

And as far as Sleater-Kinney, I don't really get them, but that doesn't mean they're bad or anything. I didn't get Sufjan until a week ago, and now he's up there with NMH, YLT, and Pavement.

God damn! So many people are visiting that page of Sleater-Kinney cuts, that my bandwith at Fileden is thru the roof. So until they reset my allotment in a couple of days, the files on my page are unavailable. You can find most of them here though:
    http://www.electrip.com/sleater-kinney/index.html

and elsewhere if you look, they're all out there within close proximity to a google search.

I never thought of them as a punk band, so whatever.

Bad Brains, Husker Du, the Replacements, Minutemen, Blag Flag, etc. People need to get some perspective.

How about the entire Dig Me Out album. Most of the songs on The Woods suck. Sleater-Kinney in the early days was the best. Anything before One Beat.

I will echo the sentiment that most of 'Dig Me Out' should be considered in their ten greatest songs. Furthermore does a cover really count?
