Great Lake Swimmers Free Live EP

The generous Wainfleet, Ontario trio Great Lake Swimmers are offering a free five-song EP of tracks recorded this past April in Toronto. Get the whole shebang by clicking here and downloading Live From the Church of the Redeemer EP in one tight lil' zip. Got it? As you'll note, the sound is super crystalline ... must be those holy acoustics.

The overall feel reminds us a lot of Bill Callahan gliding into "Sycamore" at another church during this past year's SXSW. Musically, Tony Dekkerk and Co. cover all the bases, giving pin-drop takes on "There Is A Light," "I Am Part Of A Large Family," and "Put There By The Land" from this year's Ongiara with "Various Stages" from 2005's Bodies and Minds, and "Moving Pictures, Silent Films" from the 2003 self-titled debut. Sonically, they receive assistance from Blue Rodeo's Bob Egan on pedal steel/guitar, good ol' Owen Pallet on violin, and Basia Bulat, who provides backing vocals.

And, yeah, it all sounds so purty, it'd be a shame not to catch 'em live.
