Grey's Anatomy Is The New The OC

It's a music-on-TV-shows kind of day, ain't it? Well, most Grey's fans are still abuzz over the off-camera brawl between Dr. McDreamy and The Other Guy, but what we really care about is the soundtrack! We're reluctantly getting into the show a few seasons late 'cause we hear it's replacing The OC -- at least in terms of launching artists into the iTunes top sellers list. So, if Snow Patrol's success is a precedent, this means great things for Camera Obscura, who will be featured in the intro montage of this Thursday's show.

Camera Obscura - "If Looks Could Kill" (MP3)

But the Glaswegians indie poppers aren't the only blog faves turning up on the show, as next week's episode will feature the Bacharach-meets-Brian Wilson sound of Miami's The Postmarks!

Postmarks - "Goodbye" (MP3)

Look out Swan Lake: You're next.

Regina Spector was played last week. Not sure if it was the first time they used the track or not..

grey's is the new OC because it used to be a great show that turned into shit.

also, during last night's lost there was a promo for abc's thursday night lineup (that includes grey's) with a song by rob thomas. any show that is any way associated with that douchebag automatically negates any "coolness" factor of the show, no matter what indie band du jour they happen to feature.

Au Revoir Simone is in tonight's episode, and it's the second time they've been on the show in the span of about five episodes.

Alexandra Patsavas is the music supervisor on both shows. Hence the similarities!

That show sucks. I was promised Grey's anatomy bit all I get is this "dialogue".

Grey's Anatomy is the new OC because the lead blonde chick in both shows can't act and apparentely can't be written for either. It's like the writers are like "Oh, we need to punch up Meredith/Marissa's dialogue-- Pompeii/Barton will just fuck it up so why bother?"

Oh great. There goes The Fray, Snow Patrol, Regina, Camera Obscura, and The Postmarks (and I hope you guys were kidding about TVOTR). What's next now?

On the next episode of Gay's Anatomy, more music from: Lily Allen, Joanna Newsom, Cold War Kids, Deerhoof, Ferraby Lionheart, Animal Collective, M. Ward, Fantomas, cLOUDDEAD, The Pillows, Aphex Twins Minor Threat, Melt-Banana, Cannibal Corpse, Converge, Nile, Mayhem, and more. Plus a brand new exclusive Decemberists b-side, the one still not found on your favorite blogs.

May God help us all...

Wait...now it's politically incorrect to like a band because they were on Grey's Anatomy? Damn. Well, fuck that because I'm never gonna stop loving Joe Purdy, and they play him all the time.

Stop worrying about it, just listen to the music that you enjoy and ignore the chatter. I promise you will be a happier person.

I LOVE that they've played the Chalets more than once-that band needs some more fans and money coming it's way and I especially liked the inclusion of the Gossip tonight. It may even have been the MSTRKRFT remix

I noticed the Gossip cut too. I was really pleased to see it and I thought it was used very well. It's a shame they didn't use anything other than the 'intro' part.

Okkervil River is on the show in two weeks. It was in their message boards the other day.

NPR was talking about this last December, it's the same music superviser for both shows. Here's a link:

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5066509

And a quote from the above link:

"Alexandra Patsavas, who supervises the music for a number of Hollywood shows, including Grey's Anatomy, Without A Trace, and The O.C.."

I never thought I was one of these people - but how pissed off am I that Camera Obscura's going to be co-opted by 23-year-old PR account reps? Ask the empty moving box I just beat the crap out of with a pool cue. ARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHH.

That being said - if Tracy Anne and crew get PAID from said Grey's usage, then it's not a complete loss. I know they're probably able to put food on the plate, but I'd like to see her with a mouthful of fronts at their next live show.

TV on the Radio's "Wolf Like Me" was also in this week's 'Friday Night Lights' episode, along with a Daniel Johnston song ("Devil Town," covered by someone else - not Bright Eyes' version.)

Wired did a feature on Alexander Patsavas in their music issue a month ago, fittingly titled
'Radio on the TV.'

I'd link to it, but all my links get shut down here.

I've been saying that Grey's Anatomy is like the O.C.'s older sister... she's listens to some cool stuff, but you're embarassed that she has James Blunt in her CD collection.

what got me hooked on Grey's Anatomy in the first place was when they played "Crazy" before anyone in the mainstream was really touching it. i'm super proud to have 3 of my bands in there (Roisin Murphy, Moloko, Postmarks)... goes to show what great taste they have up there ;)

I'm not ashamed to admit that I started watching Grey's from the beginning, and I only started watching it because they had Rilo Kiley as the very first song on the very first episode.
