Indie Rock Around the Bunker

Off of the upcoming Serge Gainsbourg English-language cover album, Monsieur Gainsbourg Revisited, we've got a pretty hot cover of the legendarily Pope-banned "Je taime...moi non plus" by Cat Power and Karen Elson, Jack White's supermodel wife. It loses something in English, but, come on- is there anything Chan can't sex up? (Related: any updates on why she canceled her tour?)

Anyway, the whole album features Franz Ferdinand, The Kills, Tricky, Jarvis Cocker, Portishead, and Michael Stipe, and it's out Monday.

People with a taste for campy British humor and Gainsbourg completists will enjoy this parody by Carry On stars Frankie Howerd and June Whitfield. The rest of you will get it in the MP3 feed and hate me.

You mean there's a tribute album that Sufjan isn't on? Shocking. I do love me some Chan, though.

Over @ http://dansmoncafe.blogspot.com is a live-mp3 of Franz Ferdinand & Jane Birkin, doing Sorry Angel (also on that Gainsbourg-tribute).

I posted over 50 versions of Je t'aime on my Filles Sourires-blog, but taken 'm down recently - might do a repost of some.

Is the heroin rumor still the leading reason why Chan canceled her tour?

Heroin? Chan's got too much meat on her bones to be a heroin junkie.

Actually, junkies tend to stay a bit meatier or bloat up, despite this "heroin chic" myth. Heroin slows down your metabolism.

Ok... yea.. great... Cat Power... whatever. Isn't the more important track to be leaking from this album the Portishead one? I mean.. no album since PNYC in 1998... (pretty please with appropriate cherries on top)

I don't hold out much hope for the album, but it's still delightful to see a Gainsbourg post. Thanks, Jim! Let's see if this post gets as many comments as the Kid Rock/Scott Stapp one. . . cough.

If you want to hear Serge in english go pick up Mick Harvey's CDs "Intoxicated Man" and "Pink Elephants."

What was the point of that awful Cat Power/Jack White's Baby Momma collaboration? Wow...

Quit Your Day Job: Ungdomskulen

Premature Evaluation: Beck - Modern Guilt
