Jason Molina's Coming To America, Magnolia Electric Co. Hit The Road

thubmnail icon: Jason Molina's Coming To America, Magnolia Electric Co. Hit The Road

Jason Molina's work as Songs: Ohia and Magnolia Electric Co. (and etc.) has always been steeped in the American landscape -- look no further than Sojourner's "Texas 71" -- but interestingly, the singer/songwriter currently resides in the UK. Absence makes the heart? Molina's been touring solo overseas, too, but on 10/21, he's joining up with those other guys in that picture for a 13 date tour of the States. It ends in Chicago, where the band can seamlessly plop into the studio with Steve Albini and get to work on a new Magnolia Electric Co. album, currently scheduled for a mid-2009 release. Revisit "Texas 71" (both the song and the place) while you check out those dates:

Band To Watch: Threatmantics

Threatmantics are a scruffy Welsh rock trio that throw some wrinkles into the scruffy rock formula: Instead of a lead guitarist, they have a lead John Cale viola, and their drummer does double-time with a keyboard. The two guys mixing...
