Justice Remixes Lenny Kravitz
On one hand, it's fun to see an outfit that's amassed as much cred as Justice spend some of it on those less fortunate than themselves in the bloghaus era, like say U2 and Lenny Kravitz. On the other it's like whuuut Justice are remixing U2 and Lenny Kravitz? There must be some good reasons. Maybe it's a sincere cred rehabilitation thing, maybe it's just for the parlor game of seeing if they can pull it off, maybe it's born of Justice being bored of looking cool and smoking in Parisian clubs and that actually there is no strategy whatsoever. (Oh right, also: these things.) Anyway thinking about the whys and the WTFs surrounding Justice's remix of "Let Love Rule" is more interesting than the track itself. Kravitz is releasing a deluxe 20th anniversary edition of Let Love Rule that I know all of you are going to buy, and to promote he had Gaspard and Xavier make the title track into a Justice song. I mean, that is what it is: typical † style synths and house bounce underneath, Lenny letting love rule overtop. Download it at lennykravitz.com for the price of an email. Uh, the reason these french cunts are remixing U2 and Kravitz is because that's who's shelling out the dollars to try and buy some 09 cred with all the kids who (correctly) think U2 and Kravitz suck their parents' wrinkled balls.

Go ahead, downvote me: synth-y remixes of rock bands suck, suck, suck. It doesn't matter if they're major label, indie label, or whatever. It's always an unessential navel-gaze. I'm a big B-side collector, and I avoid remixes like sidewalk mucus. Obviously, U2 and Kravitz think they need remixers; what's not obvious is whether they really do, or whether they should accept that house remixes at all capture what they want to sound like, or whether it helps them capture new audiences that aren't down with their "classic" sound. My guess is no on all fronts. But that guess happens to coincide with the way my tastes run, so I'm hardly to be trusted.

Discounting the douche that he has become, "Let Love Rule" is a kickass record. Get over your indieboy selves, Amrit and Pooter. In 20 years, you will be embarrassed that you thought of Montreal and Justice and all the other shit you champion were good.
