Karen (Dem)O

Reader Mark piques our interest with this query:

Hey-- there was a 16-track album floating around last night of a lot of Karen O's home recordings. You guys hear anything or manage to snag it? It got pulled off before I had a chance to grab it... Thx m
Here's what we've got for ya, Mark: The tracks that were circulating last night come from a home demo Karen put to CD-R (labeled KO At Home), unearthed in TVOTR guitarist Dave Sitek's Brooklyn apartment. It even came with a cover!

The Oscar Wilde quoting inscription:

And all the woe that moved so that he gave that Bitter cry
And the Wild regrets and Bloody sweats none knew so well as I,
For He who lives more lives than one,
more Deaths that one must Die,
Oscar Wilde
We're in it For the Long Haul Kid, we feel, cuz we're Real
All The love + safe travels + goodluck
Karen
The long haul indeed. So Mark, Dreams Of Horses could hook you up (Don't Need Anything, too). From what we've heard, it's just Ms. O and her guitar -- and while the audio is purty good, the songs are bare boned. Still, it's Karen, so obviously worth a listen. Anyone have any more info on the tunes -- or where to find 'em? We'd be much O-bliged (heh).

They're still on all the torrent sites we can't talk about. Give it a day or three and they'll be on the public sites.

Everyone calm the fuck down. The guy from TVOTR needs to get a fucking grip, it's his fault he left the tunes there in the first place. Secondly they are only fucking demos. Have you heard those Cure home demos that came out? What a waste of fucking time, and I'm one of their biggest fans.

sure sucks that this was stolen. would you drive a car that someone gave you (knowing it was someone else's)? wait for it to come out, when it's ready...

Hey I am slowly getting into the indie community more and more, however I live in the middle of nowhere (rural missouri). Due to this I have no good friends that are members of private torrent engines. So right now the best one that I use it libble, don't get me wrong it helps out alot, but I would love to have some one that could help lead me further down the rabbit hole into oink or indietorrent or some even more well hidden torrent site that i wouldnt know about or need an invite to get into. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Interesting...K-Fed uses random caps on a strange shower door message and is ridiculed. Karen O uses random caps on a little homemade album cover, and nothing is said. I see...

from yeahyeahyeahs.com in a post entitled "Leaked Demos, weird me out to the max":

Good grief, can't say I don't feel a little grossed out by someone taking a liberty with music that was mine and Dave's. Shit happens nonetheless. All I can do at this point is offer up a recommendation... if you happen to get your mits on one of those old demos floating around MY personal favorites and the ONLY ONES I would
have released for anyone to enjoy is "Pumpkin" and "Snakes and Worms". The rest I probably would have pitched or buried for while longer. No use bitching about something that's out of my control.

Chin up,
ko
