Lykke Li Covers Kings Of Leon In A Snuggie

thumbnail icon: Lykke Li Covers Kings Of Leon In A Snuggie

Kings Of Leon covers, are they the new Britney covers? Well, no, because there is no irony implied by these Followill followers. Europeans take the boys very seriously. Lykke's interpretation of Because Of The Times' renegade parenting anthem first surfaced online last fall as a mashup of sorts, titled "Knocked Up (Rodeo Remix)." But the Internet doesn't seem to know the origin of Lykke's vocals? Since then it's been a staple of the Swede To Watch's live set. Last night she took it to Last Call With Carson Daly's "covers week," for which Adele already tackled Bob Dylan, Duke Spirit did Prince, and (tonight) Ben Harper will attempt Queen. That means Carson's given us the first proper recording of Lykke Li's cover without Caleb's vocals mixed in.

Before you watch the clip, bad news and good news. Technical difficulties with the Lawnmower Man mean that the visuals cut out on this after three minutes (especially unfortunate because her sex-on-fire face at the very end was gonna be my screengrab). The good news is that the audio is fine, so the ripped MP3 is complete. Deal?

No, that's not really a Snuggie. But it's ... something. Lykke Sleeve more like it. (Zyng.) And yes, this performance was obviously recorded when the singer did Last Call in February.

Lykke Li - "Knocked Up" (Last Call With Carson Daly) (MP3)

This Sunday Miss Li will play Coachella, where Amrit and Brandon will be reviewing, photographing, and tanning. Follow @them so you can get the Lohan sightings in real time.

The proper title for the "mashup" or whatever it is is...

"Knocked Up (Lykke Li vs Rodeo Remix)" and it appeared on Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody" single. I'm thinking "Rodeo" is a nickname of Caleb's.

Also, it was remixed by John Hill, who also produced a bit of Santigold's album as well as a remix for Lykke Li's "Breaking It Up". I saw the remix at first and I thought "Kings of Leon? Lykke Li? Together? Huh?"

John Hill is the tie that binds, I imagine. Both artists have worked with him in the past.

:]

Rodeo... one of my fav KOL songs is "King of the Rodeo" so that must have something to do with it. Listen to it, and then turn it up every 10-15 seconds: http://tinyurl.com/5k652q
I had poor expectations before hearing this song as a big Kings of Leon fan, but this.. I absolutely love it, I'm impressed by the Lykke Li vs. Rodeo Remix... she pulls it off well, and if that really was a Snuggie, she pulls that off well, too. I should crop my blue one to match that length...

Walty

Good choice to use something from their first two albums and not whatever they call the shite they've been doing for the past few years.

Knocked Up bats lead-off on their third album (Because of the Times).

My "going down the wrong path" sisters informed me that Nickelback did a Kings of Leon cover while in Omaha. Sigh. Please don't find that mp3.

The original "Knocked Up" remix (LL vs Rodeo) was recorded for the B side of "Use Somebody" in the UK. The remix was indeed produced by John Hill (who did the "Breaking it Up" remix for LL and produced and co-wrote most of the Santogold album). Rodeo is his remix pseudonym and if you look on the Santogold album credits, you'll see it appear next to his name).
