March Music Preview

This winter, my iPod kept warm with sultry ballads from gals like Jenny Lewis, Beth Orton, and Chan Marshall. Now, while NYC remains bitter cold, here's March, comin' in like a ferocious fuckin' gold lion. Gold stars all around:

The Secret Machines - "Lightning Blue Eyes" (MP3 Link Expired)
Appleseed Cast - "February" (MP3 Link Expired)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - "Cheated Hearts" (MP3 Link Expired)

i keep listening "cheated hearts," once or twice everyday since i first heard it last week. sometimes more than once in a row. it is a worthy successor to "maps" as 'the best song on the yeah yeah yeahs album,' and a definite candidate for 'best single of the year,' whether or not its actually released as one.

The new Secret Machines is a disappointment.

the new appleseed cast is really awesome. it's more subtle than 'two conversations' and less happy. (ha! happy emo)

You have probably already tuned in, but if you haven't tried Art Brut, I highly recommend.

I am still listening to Beth Orton's "Central Reservation." Do you recommend I move on?

'alone jealous and stoned' off the new secret machines lp sounds identical to 'union city blues' by blondie.

do i win something?

The new YYYs album is better than I expected. The new Appleseed Cast is boring, but better then their last two albums. And Secret Machines...are just lame.

i like "dudley" better than "cheated hearts" but they're both pretty awesome.

that secret machines track and the other one i've heard sucks. i'm still digging that new track from the stills. radical change. i'm hearing great things about the record as a whole.

i disagree with the stated opinion on band X if opinion says band X is good.

i state unrelated band Y as better to sidestep any reasonable debate.

thus i win.

i am now king of all indie schmindie.

cinders and ashes! ... my money was on "Mysteries" to be the first new YYY leak to post on Stereogum ... i think "Dudley" sounds like jumped off a Pere Ubu cd, but it's the only cd i'd recommended to anyone in months

I was into band X way before any of youse, now I'm over it.

i state unrelated band Y as better to sidestep any reasonable debate.
