Meet Miss Violetta Beauregarde

What's more ridiculous: Calling your album Odi Profanum Valgus Et Arceo, or calling yourself Miss Violetta Beauregarde? We were still mulling that question –- and many, many more -- after spinning this Swiss-Italian's record, which hits with 16 weird, "grindcore" tracks, each clocking in under two minutes, and each rendered with bizarre bleeps, snarling-then-screeching vocals, and at breakneck BPM. The New York Times says she's "like Lydia Lunch was long ago," and quotes liberally from her bio:

I dont listen to electro or techno or whattafuck. i just do it. 3 years ago i found out it was funny pushing buttons and rotating knobs to make stupid noises and make fun of those pretentious indie electroassholes. hey youuuu, i know it's just noise and screams, you dont need to remember me i know what i'm doing.
She's looking at you, MSTRKRFT!

The Kundera reference? Add it to the list of questions.

Isn't Odi Profanum Vulgust et arceo Sympathy for the record industry's label motto or something.
"I detest the ungodly rabble and I keep them at a distance" Very uncharming

she calls her music "ghettotech/electro/grindcore" on her myspace. maybe she doesn't know? her english is questionable. that pic of her breastesses on suicidegirls linky is nice, though. almost as much fun as the track. almost.

nothing like seeing a really obviously culturally immersed person try to deny the influence culture has had on their "art." fucking idiots.

I just reached into my irony sack and it told me that this is really boring. It also mentioned something about Suicide Girls thinking they're musicians...I couldn't quite make it out.

nothing like seeing a really obviously self loathing person try to critique the music of someone who is far less cynical and way more productive than he or she is. time for another mountain dew, mouth breather?

1. What the Knife does is WAAAAAYYYYY different. They have polish, production, extended compositional skills and professional quality gear. They are far less aggressive in their creepiness. They don't scream about Wonder Woman or have an alter ego appearing on Suicide Girls.
A better comparison would be Peaches, who lost her edge about two albums ago, when she stated letting other people into her studio. Or a female derivative of what Magas is doing, at least in spirit.

2. Miss Violetta Beauregarde is an alter ego as well.

It is obviously a bit of a joke. A well constructed, well performed and compelling joke. The indie kids in attendance need to forget about acoustic guitars and whining for a second. There is so much more to music than heartfelt sincerity. In fact, Violetta may well fit into a pocket of performance art engendered by Tracy and the Plastics or Planningtorock.

3. She owns me. I hope she does a Stateside tour. I will lose my shit. All hail the new, more authentic Peaches.

Hey Wesley, nice mention of Magas.

I can't stop listening to May I Meet My Accuser. I brought that cd over to a friend's house with a super fancy home stereo, and the louder it got the better it sounded. The subwoofer made my teeth rattle.

You peeps need to check out Magas.

Thanks, I've been looking into her after hearing about this weird little thing...her website is winderfully odd. As is this tune. It's refreshing to see someone who doesn't clearly take themselves and their music way too seriously.

And seriously, why would you even compare this to The Knife? What is there to compare? Absolutely completely different in aesthetic, sound, message, style, and so on. In my opinion anyway. I really have to agree with wesley and seiche here.
