New A.C. Newman - "There Are Maybe Ten Or Twelve"

Now that the New Pornos have rocked Australia and New Zealand on the final leg of their Challengers tour, Carl Newman is prepping the release of his second solo album Get Guilty. Today, via Matador Records' Intended Play sampler for Fall '08, we get an early listen of Guilty's bright opening track. At two minutes forty seconds, "There Are Maybe Ten Or Twelve" is the shortest song on the record, built around a stately riff that sounds like some imagined indie-pop national anthem. Drummer Jon Wurster (Mountain Goats), Nicole Atkins, and Mates Of State assist on the album, possibly on this very tune!

Had the pleasure of seeing TNP during their Aussie visit. Challengers was one of the best albums released over the last 12 months and this song continues in a similar style. Love it!

Hopefully this is as good as his last solo album. I must disagree with the above poster as well, challengers was a bore and I hope this has some more diverse song structures and tempos! I saw TNP at All Points West and they put on a good show, A.C. is very funny. This song is ho-hum.

"Jon Wurster (The Mountain Goats)?"
That's like, "Paul McCartney (Wings)..."
Score = 2
I've always felt that each TNP album was just not quite as good as the last, but The Slow Wonder was as good as any of them except Mass Romantic. This second solo effort looks to be just about as good.
