New Andrew W.K. - "Party (You Shout!)" (Stereogum Premiere)

thubmnail icon: New Andrew W.K. - "Party (You Shout!)" (Stereogum Premiere)

Yesterday we got a look behind the scenes of perpetual party monger Andrew W.K.'s new Adult Swim show, which promises to blend together the worlds of AWK, Dan Deacon, and Bubbles from The Wire into a single cohesive package. Finally. "The show is about having fun, partying, rolling around, rolling over, piling up, skipping forth, and ambling about," he says. "In addition to that movement, we also dance, strut, talk, ponder, and probe deep into the questions about life and how to live it." But you already know how Andrew thinks you oughta live it: You party. Hard. Shout. Repeat. "Party (You Shout!)," then, is as surprising a look for Mr. W.K. as a blood-stained tee and three-day old beard, but still it's a previously unreleased addition to a Dionysian canon getting a repackaged retrospective via the forthcoming Premium Collection. (Also and more intriguingly, the Collection includes an album of Japanese pop covers. More on that later.) This track is the step-by-step on how and when to party, which is to say: you should be "doin' it right," "every single night," drivin' around," while "jammin' to the sound." Don't fuck it up.

Andrew W.K. - "Party (You Shout!)" (MP3)

Premium Collection is a two discer: Disc One is The Very Best Of, featuring 18 of AWK's greatest hits as chosen by him and his fans. Disc Two is The Japan Covers, including 14 classic and current J-pop singles all recorded and translated by A by his lonesome. More info on the release at andrewwk.com. It's available as an import for 3333 yen right here.

Also, those in NYC can see AWK for the price of free, along with Cheeseburger, at a Jon Glaser-hosted Comic Con afterparty at Andrew's Santo's Party House. Details here. Jon Glaser is the best. Somebody request "Barack Obama-sistible!"

I love this guy.

Too bad 'Close Calls With Brick Walls' hasn't been released domestically. Maybe someday.

The reason he isn't releasing stuff in the US is because his ex-manager owns the rights to the name Andrew W.K. in the United States when it comes to CD releases. The only loopholes he can use is to release it elsewhere, like Japan, or to release it on vinyl.
