New As Tall As Lions - "Into The Flood"

Long Island-based BTW As Tall As Lions took a step up with last year's self-titled LP, a swirling modern-rock document that stands tall amongst its heart-on-a-sleeve, lush-hooked peers -- bringing shrewder melodies, better time signature shifts, and smarter recording studio partners (Pixies' engineer/mixer Steven Haigler joined last time). After a year crafting vids and supporting the record, ATAL ready one more mini-collection of tunes -- the digital only EP The Flood -- before working on the next full-length. They're up to some familiar tricks, hitting with a soaring vocals and a sweet six-bar to four-bar verse thing happening. Formal wear mandatory, glasses optional.

As Tall As Lions - "Into The Flood" (MP3)

The five-track The Flood digital EP is out 11/29 on Triple Crown/East West. Bonus fun: Grab MP3 of As Tall As Lions standout "Ghost Of York," and chase that with live vid of "Be Here Now," shot at Highline Ballroom.

Amazing band. Cool dudes. There was a period they played around the Rochester / Buffalo area a ton. Although not many people came out to the shows, they were phenominal everytime. They deserve more exposure and respect. In my opinion, of course.

It's cool to see them getting more popular. I've been seeing them on Long Island since 2001 or 2002 at least. Definitely one of the better bands to come out of LI.

This is one of the best live bands ive ever seen. I felt like their last full length didnt do them justice because they are so amazing live, but this e.p. is the best stuff they have ever done. Buy this e.p. when it comes out!!!

Band To Watch: Blank Dogs

Blank Dogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's usually covering his face with masks...

Quit Your Day Job: Megafaun

Raleigh-via-Eau Clair BTW Megafaun debuted impressively earlier this year with Bury The Square. The trio nip-and-tuck experimental tendencies (tape splicing, white noise colliding with banjo, junkyard-laced spring reverb, screeching feedback at the tail end of a quiet back porch lament)...

Premature Evaluation: of Montreal - Skeletal Lamping

Skeletal Lamping is anything but skeletal. When we took a close listen to album closer "Id Engager" we mentioned it wasn't the strangest, most ambitious, or best tune on of Montreal's new one, but after absorbing the other 14 tracks,...
