New Beck - "Soldier Jane" (Live)

You've probably read that Beck's follow-up to Guero/Guerolito is completed. Produced by Nigel Godrich, the LP will likely include some combination of songs debuted on his site in December plus the new hotness -- "Nausea," "100 BPM Minute," "Elevator Music," and "Soldier Jane" -- Beck's been previewing on his current tour.

MakeYouSick.com sent us this setlist from the Fillmore stop.

Don't have a boot of that one, but I am enjoying the sounds of Santa Cruz. Here's one of the new ones, "Soldier Jane." The audio could use cleaning ... if you wanna tweak the volume and send back, I'll rehost and we'll all love you. (UPDATE: TheReatlPatBlair cleaned it up a bit ... thanks Pat!)

Beck - "Soldier Jane (Live Santa Cruz 5-30-06)" (MP3 Link Expired)

Can someone explain this tour's menagerie of puppety oddbals?

Maybe Beck will next ask us to spend more money on iTunes in typical scientology fashion. Oh wait, he did do that. What a good scientologist. I think I am going to start a business and call it a religion for tax purposes.

The puppets are great. He has 4 or 5 marionettes being controlled on stage to mimic all the actions of the band, and they are being shot with little cameras and projected behind the real band.

At his show in Bend, Oregon 2 weeks ago, some guy jumped on stage and started screaming "Beck is a Scientologist!" into the mic. Beck looked flummoxed and then meekly said something like "Uh, I didn't realize you guys were that high" or something.

That is my setlist from the Fillmore show. So the puppets are exact replicas of everything that is on stage. The puppets are about 18 inches tall with exact costumes and hair as eveyone in the band. They switch their instruments throughout the show as the band members do and the puppeteers even mimic every movement during the show ranging from where on stage they were to what they were doing. The beck puppet sang every word to every song. It was very weird. little to no pictures will exist because they said If you took pictures even with your camera phone you will be ejected from the venue, not your camera being confiscated. I believe the extra $10-$15 a ticket extra charge from the tour last summer is going to the puppet masters because in general it was the same show as last tour.

I 'mastered' the mp3 and emailed it in. Not perfect, but quite a bit better. Enjoy.

The fact is that some musicians that I really like are, or have 'flirted with', Scientology- and this affects me no more than a musician/ friend/ artist who is Buddhist, Hindu, Agnostic or Voodoo.

I'm really looking forward to the new Beck album-it sounds really intriguing, perhaps kind of Mutations-esque. But I'm not sure if I'm right, because some tracks from Beck.com (namely Untitled 2) and the one other new track I've heard (Knock Out) have quite upbeat melodies and rhythms- the latter being a sparse and laid back funk.

cant wait for the new album!!!

seriously whats wrong with scientology? i think its a cool religion, and hey, i think whatever you wanna do you can do it, whether youre christian, buddhist, scientologist, or whatever. people should be a little more open minded. its not like its YOUR religion or Your life....

anyways, looking forward to the new album, its gonna be awesome.
