New Bright Eyes - "Four Winds"
Conor's made the title track to the EP out 3/8 available to the downloading public, and by golly it's nice to hear him with some kick in his step! The last track from Four Winds had him sounding defeated, in somber campfire mode, but "Four Winds" starts with some fiddles and an upbeat, country toe-tapping groove before Conor has to get all Satan/people dying/abandoned buildings on us. Can't remember "whore of Babylon" being a more inviting sing along line, really.
Bright Eyes - "Four Winds" (MP3)
The Four Winds EP is out 3/6 and the Cassadaga LP on 4/10, both on Saddle Creek.

The whole EP is fucking great. I really enjoy reinvent the wheel. The songwriting on this song is top quality.
And am I the only one who loved I'm Wide Awake...?
Score = 0
No, I think it's generally agreed Wide Awake was his best yet, and I think the band on the EP sounds excellent, so here's hoping for a good sound on the LP.

"No, I think it's generally agreed Wide Awake was his best yet"
....what!?
It's all about Fevers and Mirrors and Lifted.
This new EP is terribly bland and unoriginal.

Letting off the Happiness is his best.

The other tracks aren't slated to be on Cassadaga, they're b-sides I believe.

As Joe said, according to Pitchfork's tracklisting of Cassadaga, only Four Winds will be on both the EP and LP.

Thanks guys! Fixed.

i think 'Lifted' was the best and then 'I'm Wide Awake..'
I wasn't blown away by the Ep, it seems like they should've just added them as extra B-Sides.

Good Tune...but does anybody else think it sounds like he should be singing "santa is coming to town"?

I've never met anyone who doesn't (secretly?) enjoy a nice fiddle solo.

Yeah, it's a shame I'm Wide Awake didn't get the recognition it deserved. Conor Oberst is the best songwriter right now, and that's no hyperbole.
Score = 0
Sounds like a bad Whiskeytown knock-off. And his quivery, emo-boy voice doesn't work with it.

1. Wide Awake
2. Lifted
3. Digital Ash
Fevers and Mirrors is pretentious and self-indulgent IMO.
Who's got the Panda Bear link?

The whole EP sounds odd. Like it wasn't produced or arranged. It sounds more old school in that they just had the band play everything live, but in a studio.
It makes a different sound, one that I don't like as much a polished, produced one.

im excited for the postman to come with my packages; i cant wait to hear the whole thing.
btw, totally fevers &mirrors.

"And his Quivery emo-boy voice doesn't work with it"
Amen to that.

"Good Tune...but does anybody else think it sounds like he should be singing "santa is coming to town"?"
haha. Bill, I think the very same thing every time I hear that intro...

I do like the new Bright Eyes tracks I've been hearing, but this just sounds like an extension of "I'm Wide Awake...". What I used to love about Conor was his ability to move in different directions on each album. Btw, the songwriting on Digital Ash is greatly overlooked. Wide Awake had the better songs, but Digital was a better album IMO.
...oh and Lifted is my favorite. Also, "No Lies, Just Love" is such a great emo song. You should all buy "Oh Holy Fools" just to listen to it.

didn't really like this one that much. i preferred lifted and i'm wide awake, with perhaps just a slight inclination to lifted.
Score = 0
I'm partial to "Wide Awake" because "Landlocked Blues" is one of my favorite songs ever. "Fevers and Mirrors" is probably the better album though. But don't quote me. The new EP starts off great but really starts to drag near the end. That's bad news for an EP, but I still think the album will be a strong one. I'm hoping so anyway, there isn't a whole lot else to look forward to in the coming months (excluding the new Kelly Clarkson album of course).

anybody like that digital ash album? this ep sounds great.
Score = 0
Digital ash is awesome! Underrated. But's its all relative. Some people like this, some like that, who knows? The old emo stuff was cool but he has a lot more confidence now which is great. 4 winds sounds so epic, hopefully the new album will be the best yet!

1. Digital Ash
2. Wide Awake
3. Lifted
4. Motion Sickness
5. Noise Floor
Can't wait for the Seattle show & release of Four Winds EP & full album. Also can't wait for new Modest Mouse and new Cloud Cult. Peace out!

nothing else to look foward to in the coming months?
isn't there a new bill callahan, low, dinosaur jr., air, andrew bird, panda bear, cocorosie, dungen, wilco, the sea and cake.. I mean, I don't know how many of these will "let you down" but it's an exciting year for new albums from some great musicians.
Score = 0
Chase, I don't know where the "let you down" quote comes from, I didn't say that. But at any rate, take it easy man. I wasn't being completely serious. Not that a new Wilco album excites me in any way, shape or form. But yeah, the other stuff you mention is certainly worth looking forward to.

This song is freakin' great... the whole EP is pretty damn good too (and thems the b-sides!). I'm excited.

I've always hated Bright Eyes so much, but this track may have changed my mind. I love it.
Score = 0
you are all weiners! every latest bright eyes cd holds the title of 'the best record'. it's not 'i'm wide awake is kinda good, and, duhh, four winds is okay'.
NO! conor is like a bottle of wine, age only makes him better.
