New Cale Parks - "Some Sew, Some Find"

thubmnail icon: New Cale Parks - "Some Sew, Some Find"

CMJ '07 was the last we saw of multi-talented drummer/composer Cale Parks, on a night he joined the (much missed) Narrator in a sweaty subterranean show supporting his solo debut Illuminated Manuscript. You may have heard from him since -- lending his sticks to the White Williams live experience, or in service of his day gig with Aloha -- but this fall he's putting the focus back on his particular brand of self-expression. A Cale set features some drums, keyboards, sample pads, and lots of knobs, and spits out in a collage of electro beats, live percussion, computer tones, and vocal incantations. Upon a quick spin, the forthcoming Sparklace seems to build on that template, although we're spotlighting "Some Sew, Some Find" because, despite his deft digital beatmaking, Cale's at his best when his kit's at the fore and the tempos surge.

Other tunes are airier and more electro (check "Early On" and "Age Of Reform"), but that's a worthy outlier. Here's a fairly awesome one from the Manuscript:

Sparklace is out 11/4 via Polyvinyl.

Wow, that "Some Sew, Some Find" song is the best thing I've heard in a while. I know the beats are awesome because 45 seconds into it I was masturbating furiously.

Glad to see this dude on the 'Gum radar. Aloha are so fkn underrated. Problem being, they are one of those bands that requires more than just one listen (and nobody seems willing to do that anymore). Anyway, got to go chase some kids off my lawn now...
