New Circulatory System - "Overjoyed"
Will Cullen Hart is making everybody really happy this week. The E6 principal has been doing interviews with EW.com and Pitchfork in support of Circulatory System's long-awaited second proper album, which is good news made even better by the promise of new Olivia Tremor Control music. (So many exclamation points on this page.) Regarding the two completed OTC songs and the band's ongoing sessions, he told P4K:
But it's exciting because it feels just like it was before, I swear to God. There's no fucking difference. Really. No fucking difference. I like that. [laughs] I like that! Of course, I would like that, you know? It's real. People, hopefully, will like that. Of course they'll fucking like that. I mean, if people like our stuff, they'll like that.
Whenever that is released, it will be the first Olivia material since 1999's Black Foliage. And on the Circulatory front, the forthcoming Signal Morning is the band's first album since 2001. Aside from Olivia Tremor Control's 2005 reunion tour, Will's been quiet for the better part of this decade, diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and spending too much time dealing with it by drinking. But apparently that's been stemmed, and now there's much music to be had. Starting with Signal Morning's first MP3, the elegantly fuzzed and clamoring, psychedelic-pop beauty "Overjoyed."

Will says he's "really proud" of the album, which features one song started all the way back in '93 ("Woodpecker Greeting Worker Ant," featuring fellow Olivia Tremor Controller Bill Doss), one boasting Jeff Mangum on drums (from a session put to tape in 2001 on the song "The Spinning Continuous"), along with the original CS lineup. Signal Morning is out 9/8 via Cloud Recordings. New Olivia Tremor Control songs can't come soon enough.
UPDATE: Here's another and this has Jeff on drums too.

"No, [Jeff Mangum]'s in New York or Canada or something. I'm not sure where he is."
Dude, just follow him on Twitter.

oh man thanks for this

The new album is absolutely terrible, well the first one wasn't really good either. The fun and awesome melodies of olivia tremor control are nowhere to be found. Most of this is just an uninspired boring wankfest.

I find the whole thing to be transcendent. I put on some headphones and Signal Morning and it takes me on this ridiculous ride. It is the most dense, meticulously produced album I've heard in a long time; you can tell just how much love Will put into it.
And no, this band is not The Olivia Tremor Control, it is different. They definitely don't have anything as instantly catchy as Hideaway. Its closer to the... Bark and Below It side of OTC :P, which personally I like a lot.
Score = 1
Way more loud and fast than I would have expected from these guys. Anxious to hear if that turns out to be a good thing. Can't quite decide based on this track. I hope either new album includes calm and dreamy songs too.
Score = 1
"Overjoyed" accurately describes how I feel about this news! CS's first album is pretty immaculate in my opinion, even now when I listen to it it still sounds fresh. And no, I don't expect it to be a carbon copy of OTC, as another commenter pointed out they are two different bands. Perfect start to my day, thanks Amrit!

The track mentioned here as "The Spinning Continuous" is actually titled "Round Again". "The Spinning Continuous" is a different song!!

First I must confess I listened to a leaked version of Signal Morning; second, without knowing well Olivia Tremor Control or the former record of these incredibly talented guys; also, over the time, I've only listened to Neutral Milk Hotel and not much more from the Elephant 6 movement.
I'm really surprised and overwhelmed because of this album's grandeur. It's easilly the best record I've listened through the whole year, but not only when comparing it to other ones -something futile. The reason is clear (and not simple): it's an amazing further release, filled with haunting compositions. It's beautiful and extremely energetic. I suppose it has tje potential of being remembered as a great work of modern pop music (somehow, I also believe it as commercially succesful). It even makes me shiver while entering end enjoying it's endless layers and psychedelic overtones.
I hope I can see them at some point here in my country, although it seems almost impossible. I can just congratulate the ones responsible for a work of these heights and ambitions.
Greetings from Mexico City.
