New Coldplay - "Death Will Never Conquer"

thumbnail icon: New Coldplay - "Death Will Never Conquer"

New Coldplay b-side, guys. They write:

Tonight's the first night of our tour. To say thank you to everyone who's bought tickets and supported us, here's a new song called "Death Will Never Conquer." You'll hear it at the concerts with a twist...

If you want to keep the "twist" suspense don't read the rest of this post and just download it at coldplay.com/song. But if you love SPOILERS...

At the MSG show they played this song in the crowd, after "Yellow." And it was sung by Will Champion (bald, drummer, last seen wearing a sheer, powdered blue shirt for a month straight) instead of Chris (who takes studio vocal duties), so, double twist. And Will has a better voice than Chris. So, triple twist.

Also, whoever's writing these Coldplay web notes has nice handwriting.

playing it in the crowd, huh? I'm sure I'd rather hear WAKE UP or GUNS OF BRIXTON in the crowd than some shitty B-side. They're trying way too hard to be Arcade Fire.. it's sad. They should stick to trying to be Radiohead.

Oh jeez not another RH/AF critique/bash/reference. Please walk into the nearest speeding bus. This is a nice simple tune, catchy even.

You can defend them, that's fine. But it's true. The evidence is right in front of you. I don't mind Coldplay, but lately they've been sucking Win Butler's dick.

I'm not sure I follow...you want to hear them cover Arcade Fire ("Wake Up") while simultaneously bashing them for trying too hard to be them?

...no. Arcade Fire made it a tradition during their Neon Bible tour to play songs in the crowd, either Wake Up, or a cover of the Clash's Guns of Brixton, almost nightly, if not every night.

Right...Because we all forgot Arcade Fire invented that particular move.

Rise Against played in crowds way before Arcade Fire formed. So has Dillinger Escape Plan.

I am not a Coldplay basher (the new album's pretty good), but if they were going to give away a song, could it have been longer than 1:16? That's like inviting someone for dinner and serving them some cheese and crackers.

Didn't Coldplay do Speed of Sound from the crowd on the X&Y tour? Yep, they did. And that was what? Oh, 2005. So, there.

look guy, if you want to argue that you like the music, that i can respect. but to assert any way, shape or form that Coldplay is original is total BS.

i didn't even say anything about the music... i said it's stupid to compare one band to another because they both go into the crowd to sing. you're gonna have to come up with something better than that.

I Like it. It is free. And who cares how they play it live. You`re there to hear the music. Besides, if you have such a problem with the way they play live, don`t watch them. It`s ABOUT THE MUSIC!!!!!!!!

Coldplay uses guitars? Lame. I can think of at least a couple other bands that have used guitars. So lame.

While Mom enjoys listening to catchy tunes and Eno's production, I console myself with a constant dose of irony, some self-loathing, and the public airing of grievances on Stereogum.

Pretty sure U2 were playing songs in the crowd back when Win Butler was sucking his thumb in his daddy's Haliburton mansion in the Woodlands, TX. Or when he was off at his posh boarding school. Yeah Win Butler invented singing in the audience. Oh and Arcade Fire have been sucking Echo & the Bunnymen's dick for a long while now. Black mirrorrrrrr, Lips Like sugarrrr.

"You know how I know you're gay? You listen to Coldplay." isn't that the line that made the film 40-Year Old Virgin funny?

yeah, they should stick to trying to sound like Radiohead. Chris Martin will now return home to change the diaper of baby Moses.

I love Coldplay and have been rotating the new album non-stop since it came out, but personally, this song blows. I'd rather them officially release "A Spell A Rebel Yell" as an official b-side so I can have a higher-quality version.

Coldplay's music is great and original, but they're grabbing the style of a certain Canadian group that i'm SURE no one's ever heard of. They write brilliant music, they're just stuck between Arcade Fire and Radiohead in terms of appearance and stage presence.
