New Crystal Stilts - "Crystal Stilts"

thubmnail icon: New Crystal Stilts - "Crystal Stilts"

Crystal Stilts may be the quickest graduates from outsider status to buzz in recent memory, but to these ears at least, the shift is more than deserved. As we let you know when posting about the haunting Brooklyn band's forthcoming Slumberland full-length Alight Of Night, their minimalist and melancholic, lo-fi and Flying Nun-redolent Ian Curtis-meets- Phil Spector garage fuzz is pretty irresistible. If you're still unconvinced, though, take a closer listen via the detached surf haze of "Crystal Stilts," Alight Of Night's organ-lined group theme song.

Crystal Stilts - "Crystal Stilts" (MP3)

This is what the Alight Of Night track list will look like on paper:

01 "The Dazzled"
02 "Crystal Stilts"
03 "Graveyard Orbit"
04 "Prismatic Room"
05 "The SinKing"
06 "Departure"
07 "Shattered Shine"
08 "Verdant Gaze"
09 "Bright Night"
10 "Spiral Transit"
11 "The City In The Sea"

You can hear an older version of "The SinKing" and some others at their MySpace.

Alight of Night is out 10/28 on Slumberland. It's worth mentioning again that they're out on tour with fellow Brooklyn-based noise-pop favorites Vivian Girls for the following dates:

08/05 - Zoobizarre Montreal, Quebec
08/06 - Sneaky Dees Toronto, Ontario
08/07 - Zooleggers West Lafayette, Indiana
08/08 - Subterranean Chicago, Illinois
08/10 - Bears Place Bloomington, Indiana
08/11 - Cafe Bourbon Street Columbus, Ohio
08/12 - Rickety House Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
08/13 - DC9 DC, Washington DC
08/14 - The Cave Chapel Hill, North Carolina
08/15 - Nerve Center Baltimore, Maryland
08/16 - Pi Lam Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
08/22 - Death by Audio, Brooklyn, New York

This song (while not wholly original in any way) is very entertaining. I'll have to give this band a look

Quit Your Day Job: Megafaun

Raleigh-via-Eau Clair BTW Megafaun debuted impressively earlier this year with Bury The Square. The trio nip-and-tuck experimental tendencies (tape splicing, white noise colliding with banjo, junkyard-laced spring reverb, screeching feedback at the tail end of a quiet back porch lament)...
