New David Byrne & Dirty Projectors - "Knotty Pine"

thubmnail icon: New David Byrne & Dirty Projectors - "Knotty Pine"

Folks didn't necessarily agree that the forthcoming Red Hot compilation Dark Was The Night included your favorite bands, but it does include a lot of bands (31 exclusive tracks), many of whom you'll likely enjoy. See, for instance, the previously reported and analyzed collaboration between David Byrne and Dirty Projectors. If you recall, Byrne wrote the lyrics (in all caps) and as he noted "Dave and Co. set them to a bouncy little tune." Turns out that was an apt description. It is very bouncy. We also have the complete tracklist.

Dirty Projectors & David Byrne - "Knotty Pine" (MP3)

If you're not a fan of the Dave's, from today until 2/1, each track, in the order it appears on the compilation, will be streamed for one day only at the comp's MySpace as well as that particular band's MySpace. So you can mark your calendar:

Dark Was The Night is out 2/17 via 4AD. It'll be available as a double CD, triple vinyl, and a download. It benefits Red Hot, "an international charity dedicated to raising money and awareness for HIV and AIDS through popular culture." You likely already knew that. In the past, they've done No Alternative, Red Hot and Blue, etc. This is their 20th year and their 20th release. Check out the Dark Was The Night site for additional information.

This track's too short! I want these guys to write at least a double LP rock opera together. Amazing stuff.

an inspired idea that has worked,... it does make me think of the period the words came from..."I Want to Live" reimagined(love that earliest period)... Linda Rondstadt and Debbie H,.. Human League driving the car funny...I'd love to hear the 77 living room version...

What incredible fun. Longstreth has clearly moved more into pop than his Getty Address stuff (and I think the Getty Address is the greatest album I've heard in a very long time). Someone at Red Hot was smart enough to see the similarities between the Projectors and mid-period Talking Heads. Hooray for the Projectors!
