New Deerhoof - "+81"

An awesome and upbeat appetizer from Deerhoof's forthcoming record Friend Opportunity. It's a dose of '60s-styled pop with Satomi's cutesy vox, a bridge with bizarre changes, some pysch-guitar riffage from Dieterich, and bookended by trumpet blasts (what else?). We love it.

Deerhoof - "+81" (MP3 Yanked By Request)

Friend Opportunity is out 1/23/07.

UPDATE: In case you missed it the first time:

Deerhoof - "+81" (MP3)

Enjoy.

the only reason i checked them out was because they were playing and i found the free mp3s on puzzle.suchfun.net/deerhoof/ and then i got hooked.

wasn't as into that last one ...i forget the name. the one that was all prog-rocked out.

Hi all, We just got back from tour - the mp3 got posted and yanked (not by us) before we even had heard about any of it. Anyway don't worry, this song and others from the album will be available for free, just like we always do! Have fun,
Greg

hey guys,
it's true, I (the label) asked that the song be taken down. it doesn't come out for 2 more months! I know it will come out soon but I really think it's WAY too early. we really try and make sure our bands get paid for their efforts and when the whole world is leaking the album it makes it kind of hard. I know the business is changing and we are totally into releasing early free mp3s but I just think it's all a little early. okay, go ahead and bitch about me now but there's no need to talk shit about deerhoof. they are the best! xo maggie vail

Wow, deerhoof is still so cool cause they still yank downloads like an uncool band, but feel bad and self depricate about it afterwards. So it's ok, but you still don't get the song. Yay industry.

the label doesn't want anyone to hear the track because they are greedy uninformed bloodsuckers. blogs and filesharing help the band sell more tickets and merch, but make the label feel like people will buy less albums. FOOLS. PEOPLE BUY MORE ALBUMS TOO!

Uh... you people bitching about Deerhoof are insane. If I had worked on an intensely personal art project and I was waiting to unveil it in two months and share it for free, and then some asshole showed it to everyone early, I wouldn't be particularly pleased. That said, I'm going to go download the new Deerhoof album because they are brilliant. It just puzzles me to see "fans" griping like this.

deerhoof's label (KRS--a great label) has EVERYTHING to do with it, & trying to keep some tracks for a few months is nothing to hold against the label or artist. granted, it's just one song already on a sampler in europe, but there's no need to start throwing the coldplay word around, especially directed at the most creative band in this country! making a good record is a lot of hard work & very personal, & i think deerhoof & KRS deserve a little respect. it's gonna leak & everyone's going to have it early soon enough.
