New Deerhoof - "Offend Maggie"

thubmnail icon: New Deerhoof - "Offend Maggie"

Deerhoof offered up that "Fresh Born" sheet music and then it was relative silence on the Offend Maggie front, but in just a couple days our knowledge of their forthcoming ninth album's grown twofold with the "The Tears And Music Of Love" live video and now the title track in MP3 form. "Offend Maggie"'s not as raucous as the former; instead, it's a short-and-sweet love song that overlaps John Dieterich's acoustic and Ed Rodriguez's electric guitars with Satomi and Greg Saunier harmonizing about phone calls as a metaphor for unrequited love: "Ring Ring / I hang up / A bother," "Calling / Wrong Number / Do I know you? / Don't call this number," "Tens, hundreds and thousands of love messages," etc. Pick up already:

Deerhoof is my favorite current band, but this track is merely good. Also, Ed is no Chris Cohen.

How is this the same song they posted the sheet music for? The words and music are completely different.

They posted the sheet music of their songs so that fans who actually play music could tweek them and basically make them in their likeness. Read Stereogum more.

err duh, "Fresh Born" was the sheet music song, not the title track. Nevermind!

i'm worried about this new deerhoof album. they're probably my favourite band none of the new songs we've heard have been up to scratch. and yeah, this new guitar player is certainly no chris cohen.
