New Destroyer - "Foam Hands"

New Destroyer, new Destroyer, it's a good day. We started foaming at the mouth after hearing/watching Dan do "Foam Hands" in Calgary, as did you guys before the thread turned into a sweet little Calgary meet 'n' greet. "Impossibly cool ballad" was the "that was awesome" synonym that day. Not changing a letter today. For the first minute and a half, the studio "Foam" isn't far from what we heard from Bejar solo and live, painting with the same rough and skewed, oceanic watercolours in the studio, before the band and the vocalists and the keyboard-strings and the tambourine and the whistles come in. Nicely played, but the best part? The song's so strong it would've sounded perfect with Dan alone.

Destroyer, Dan Bejar

too bad OiNK is gone, we'd probably be listening to this album before the end of the year.

this track is good...i hope the rest of it is nearly as good as Rubies, which still sounds insanely great.

who writes tbis stereogum stuff? you never see any name attached to the crap like this post. i like destroyer, but this isn't a strong song. it's what a major would release as a single, meaning the lame track that would appeal to the widest demographic.

@ Liquid Squid:

Firstly, Foam Hands is a wonderful song. I'm actually hoping the album is consistent as this song. But knowing Dan, and after hours compiled into months of listening to his music, that's a question no one can answer until they've heard the actual album. Secondly, Foam Hands and the song Rivers were leaked on the net a few months ago when someone filmed Dan performing somewhere (I think it was a church hall or VFW or something?) so that's probably why Dan/Merge let the first single to come out be Foam Hands. A studio version of a song all Destroyer geeks fawned over months ago will quiet us until they release a second single in either January or February.

@ jules:

Yeah, Rockets is a Swan lake reprise for the most part, probably have them on the strings for that song, I'd bet.

@ jules pt.2:

I squealed, too! XD

Blank Dogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's usually covering his face with masks...

Quit Your Day Job: Megafaun

Raleigh-via-Eau Clair BTW Megafaun debuted impressively earlier this year with Bury The Square. The trio nip-and-tuck experimental tendencies (tape splicing, white noise colliding with banjo, junkyard-laced spring reverb, screeching feedback at the tail end of a quiet back porch lament)...
