New Devendra Banhart - "Seahorse"
Earlier this week we told you Devendra's got a brand new site. Now he's also sporting a brand new MP3 for "Seahorse," the first single from the upcoming Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon. On first listen we called the eight-minute jam a "slow-build psych epic that starts like a plaintive one-man ballad and cycles through California dreaming, echoing group singing, and woozy organs." We still basically stand by that description, but wanted to also mention (a) the Doors and (b) the phat 'n' crunchy Howlin' Rain guitar switch-a-roo that digs in around the 5:22 mark. Shine on you crazy Hairy Fairies.

Any else here a bit of Brubeck's "take five" piano in there?

man, bummer that devendra's kind of lost his touch. the new tune on his page, "bad girl", is a dead ringer for this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iypT8YZqyws
pretty sad... i still love him, but this new album's turning out to be kind of a disappointment.

The live version of Ghost is EXACTLY what I thought of, too.
Although I'm not going to complain, because I adore it.
