New Dirty On Purpose - "Marfa Lights" (Pocket Mix)

Richard Jankovich (aka Pocket) adds floor-thumping laptop beats and laser blips to DoP's already effects-laden guitars on this Hallelujah Sirens standout. It's a stomper that'll go over well during sexy time at your next indie dance party.

Dirty On Purpose - "Marfa Lights" (Pocket Mix) (MP3)

If you like, hit Pocket's homepage for remixes of Joanna, Antony, and Chan (i.e. the ones that need but one name). Dirty On Purpose have five shows in as many days from 11/1 to 11/5, bringing the Marathon to CMJ. They'll be pretty much everywhere you go, but you can get their sched at the DoP site.

I'm kinda happy someone is remixing Dirty On Purpose, because their album is one of the best of the year

It's an, uh, interesting remix

One of the best albums of the year hands down (yes, the previous Alex is right) gets one of the best remix treatments I've heard this year.

Funny enough, this is one of the only remixes that brings the lyrics out more and they really are as beautiful as the rest of the disc.

Quit Your Day Job: Megafaun

Raleigh-via-Eau Clair BTW Megafaun debuted impressively earlier this year with Bury The Square. The trio nip-and-tuck experimental tendencies (tape splicing, white noise colliding with banjo, junkyard-laced spring reverb, screeching feedback at the tail end of a quiet back porch lament)...

Premature Evaluation: of Montreal - Skeletal Lamping

Skeletal Lamping is anything but skeletal. When we took a close listen to album closer "Id Engager" we mentioned it wasn't the strangest, most ambitious, or best tune on of Montreal's new one, but after absorbing the other 14 tracks,...

Horse Feathers - "Father"

Portland songwriter Justin Ringle's evocative vocal twang and sharp lyricism are at the center of Horse Feathers' bedroom Americana. The band's second album House With No Home, which follows 2006's Words Are Dead, finds Ringle's vision fleshed out by multi-instrumentalist/composer...
