New Doveman - "Chasing Clouds" (And With My Left Hand I Raise The Dead Album Art)

No question, Thomas Bartlett is one of the most impressive figures in music right now. Although his erudite track reviews for the now defunct Salon Audiofile column are sorely missed, Dove's compensated by contributing one of the most celebrated OKX tracks (the whispering rearrangement of "Airbag") and embracing his role as the go-to 'scene' session player, lending his ivories to Yoko, to the National, to Antony, to David Byrne, to the Frames...

Now, he's set to follow-up the stunning Stereofave LP The Acrobat with the forthcoming release With My Left Hand I Raise The Dead, another candle-lit collection of ethereal, melancholic compositions. "Chasing Clouds" is the single of choice, a dreamer's gem lapping gently nuanced waves over a wistful, bittersweet melody. Lovely stuff, totally thesaurus.com worthy.

Doveman - "Chasing Clouds" (MP3)

And he's sorta dreamy.

Thomas has added a cool interstitial symphony of sorts to the LP, placing ambient, tinkling interludes between tracks to create a kind of "record-within-a-record." Bonus! Unfortunately there's no set release date for the record yet, but there's album art, so you know it can't be too far off. Take the jump to peep the With My Left Hand... cover.

Yeah, I'd say that's just a good picture of him. Not bad though.

I can't wait to hear the new album. Thomas is one of the hardest working guys in show business. He plays in about five bands in addition to creating his own music. And he is as original as he is prolfic. Check out his keyboard work:

I miss Thomas on the now-defunct Audiofile!

Lame as the decision was to unceremoniously shut it down, I suppose it needed to be put out of it's misery since he left.

Very nice. Love me some Doveman whenever possible. But haven't we heard "Chasing Clouds" before? Why yes, yes we have: in a different arrangement, it's Track 2 on "The Acrobat."

So this curious reader wants to know: what's with the repetition?
