New Dr. Dog - "The Old Days"

thubmnail icon: New Dr. Dog - "The Old Days"

It wasn't too long ago that we got this amusing clip for "Alaska" from Dr. Dog's early '07 breakthrough We All Belong, and now it's time for Dr. Dog's mid-'08 breakthrough follow-up Fate. In the past they've sung and video'd (again, amusingly) about their "Old Ways," and now they're on to talking about "Old Days." This fixation with what's passed, whether intentional or Freudian, is totally fitting for the Philly-based rock surveyists -- the Beatles and Nilsson and '60s and '70s Americana have been very good friends to them, and the lead track from the new album is staying put. Rather nicely, too, starting with a last gasp of radio static as you dial up an old AM station, keeping it light, arpeggiated, dusty, and groovy. It's not like they can't get nostalgic about more recent times, but at least on "The Old Days," their old ways are still a good look.

These dudes are so on point. They've gotten kinda slammed for being derivative or whatever and I kinda see that but the music is so pleasing. Fans of the Dog might also enjoy ROCKETSHIP PARK, this excellent group I just found out about on NPR ....

wait until you hear "Fate"!! It is fantastic. And, this list is just their US tour. They will be all over the world this year and on Conan, again, in August.
