New Ducktails - "Parasailing"
![]()
Real Estate's Matt Mondanile continues exploring his blissed-out abstract/expansive sides in Ducktails and Predator Vision (a trio with another Real Estater Etienne Duguay). As the former, he has a new split with fellow Ridgewood New Jersey resident, Julian Lynch. (You might remember Lynch's, "Banana Jam Pt.1" and/or "Droplet On A Hot Stone" from Underwater Peoples' Summertime Showcase sampler.) For his contribution, Mondanile follows up the recently posted "Landrunner" with the airier, slowly unfurling "Parasailing." It's backed by Lynch's "Topi" and "Garden 2." Rounding it out, Real Estate frontman Martin Courtney did the cover art.
Ducktails - "Parasailing" (MP3)
In addition to the songs, the 7" will come with a DVD including music videos by Richard Law. It's out 7/13 via Underwater Peoples. You can also find Ducktails self-titled collection out on Not Not Fun. It was mastered by Graham Lampkin of the very very excellent oldsters the Shadow Ring and the art was put together by Finnish multi-tasker Jan Anderzen. The Olde English Spelling Bee collection should be out soon, too. Keep up to date here.

Did anyone else want to watch some Scrooge McDuck and co. after reading this band name?

Ducktails is boring, i'm annoyed that of all the bands on the Not Not Fun roster he's getting the most attention from 'Gum. You guys should listen to Sun Araw's "Heavy Deeds", it's incredible.

ya srsly that was shit....real estate on the other hand are great and actually write songs with structure

I think this song is quite gorgeous... I appreciate Ducktails' recent foray into slower, more synth-heavy compositions and mid-fi recording quality (i.e. "Surfs Up" on the NNF LP). Most of the Real Estate stuff I've heard just sounds like Pinback to me, which isn't my trip but I can understand why people dig on it. Calling music "boring" or "shit" as though it's a fact doesn't make a whole lot of sense, when obviously it's just a matter of differing tastes and opinions.

This sounds a lot like the opening to 'Sean Flynn' by the Clash.
