New Fucked Up - "Twice Born"

thubmnail icon: New Fucked Up - "Twice Born"

The new Fucked Up's really good. (I'm still digesting it, so hard to say if it tops Hidden World, but it definitely gives it a run...) As mentioned when posting "No Epiphany," The Chemistry of Common Life's a collection of lush, kick-ass wall-of-sound hardcore rock 'n' roll that adds flute, horns, organs, and ambient/fuzzy instrumentals to vocalist Pink Eye's gruff shouts and the rest of the Torontonians FU instrumentation. My personal favorite's opener "Son The Father," but before we get to that, another shout-a-long anthem "Twice Born"'s been chosen as the album's second lead track.

The Chemistry Of Common Life is out 10/7 via Matador.

Fucked Up's blog is worth visiting. As are the band's live shows. They're joined on a string of dates by the Vivian Girls, who sing backup on The Chemistry.

"Twice Born" is one of my favorite songs on the album. Not sure if I enjoy it more than
"Son the Father," though. I am really liking the backing vocals this time around. I think a lot of the pure hardcore fans will be disappointed by it, but it kind of makes me think that Fucked Up are re-inventing the genre altogether.

Cool let's start a band and use the word "fuck" in the name because we're so rebellious and progressive.

I have never heard these guys before but I am enjoying this track. I can fathom both dancing to it and moshing to it. What is the rest of their album like? It's a style that is somewhat difficult to pinpoint for me.

they're older stuff is heavily remiscient of 80's d.c. hardcore but this is the album that has them switching directions and carving out their own sound. it's kind of a mix of that hardcore style, noise and shoegaze but that's just me.
